I got my license in 1982 but have had little chance to use it. I was a National Guard Crew Chief on UH-1's for 13 years. I still carry a sidearm for my primary job. Sometimes they even buy the bullets to let me shoot it. kwg
On a related note, LT Colonel Paul Poberenzy who served our country in both WWII and the Korean War, an aviation veteran with over 30,00 flight hours in over 500 aircraft types, passed away this morning at the age of 91.
I met him once in 1980 on a job interview with his son. Arguably, the Father of Sport Aviation.
