Decided you didn't like guns so you moved to New York where they've got their crime in check with gun bans? /sarcasm
Watching Wayne LaPierre hold up a 30-06 on one of the Sunday morning national TV news shows, and tell the world that it was so much more powerful than the little 7.62x39 he was holding in the other hand  , just told me I did the right thing giving my money elsewhere. ;)

As was mentioned earlier, its bad enough LaPierre is a creepy dude, its worse he's no help, and appears more wishy washy every time he gets up and speaks. The NRA would do much better if they let Ted Nugent take his place. That alone would probably increase membership ten fold.

The NRA needs all this drama as much as the anti gunners, and anyone we consider the opposition. That really gives them no incentive to get things settled. The longer it goes on, the more they "appear" to be needed, and the more money they con you out of.

Just think what could be accomplished, if they got rid of all those high dollar salaries, sold off all that high dollar real estate, and took all that money to DC, and paid off who needs paid to get things done. Good old capitalism at work. :)

It's not surprising that LaPierre comes off looking creepy in the cameras of the MSM. The MSM could make Jesus Christ look creepy if they wanted to.

Life member and proud of it, if it wasn't for the NRA you wouldn't be able to by a slingshot.

30-06 IS much more powerful than 7.62x39.

The point wasn't that the 7.62x39 is weak, the point was that all media outlets are claiming that the .223 and 7.62x39 are some kind of amazingly powerful death ray that needs to be banned when they're a moderately powerful round on par with 30-30.

Feel free to dump your money wherever you like but don't kid yourself into thinking that you'll find a more powerful gun rights organization than the NRA.

No kiddin'?

That was the point. He was just making his point to those in the unknowing world, how just about every other hunting rifle in the country is a death ray, and a lot worse than those scary little assault rifles. Yea boy, hes a big help.

In the NRA's defense, and with their lack of action, they did help turn my $800 MP5 into a nice $20000 profit. I guess I shouldnt bitch, eh?

His point was that the 7.62x39 isn't anything special and almost every round used for hunting is more powerful.

He wasn't saying that every rifle was a death ray, he was just making the point to ignorant ass people who think that the 7.62x39 leaves nothing left of a deer when you shoot it that it isn't as powerful as the media wants to constantly scream at people who watch their networks.

You'd be amazed how many people here in Arkansas, where nearly everyone owns a gun, think that the 7.62x39 and .223 are too powerful to hunt with because of the media but think that the 30-06 is just right.

Yea, I know. Looks good on TV, eh?

Wow. Thats not saying much for the people of Arkansas. ;)

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading to a life membership when they offer it at a discount, or just keep renewing 2 years at a time and donating to SAF or NRA-ILA. (I'm also a SAF member)

Average people who don't own hi caps and only use their guns for hunting are the ones being targeted by anti's for support right now so I doubt it is just Arkansas.

The fact of it is that lots of people are ignorant about guns. Even gun owners.

I'm about to become an NRA member because honestly, their number of members and the money they have is impressive. It is the most likely organization to actually influence people.

Also, to quote Men in Black:

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."

Im surprised to see a couple of people say that they canceled their membership because they were tired of being asked too often for contributions. That is actually a good sign of a well run organization. The number one reason people give money to charities and PACs is becasue they were asked, and the number one reason they do not is the exact opposite. It is just a phone call. Tell them no and get off the phone. Is it that hard to deal with?

I believe that the NRA must cross reference with the Do Not Call Registry. I've never received a phone call from them for any reason. However, I wish they'd save the money they spend on the frequent mailings they do that is not related to the fight. They spend countless millions on these mailers which could be used to battle in courts and media ads. I suppose their marketing department figures the mailings pay off or they wouldn't do it but I wish they'd not waste their (our) money on me. I don't even want the free gifts for reupping. Maybe for new members, but I want all the money to go for our cause.

Just call the NRA and ask to be put on the list to not receive solicitations. ;)

I'm a life member, and used to hate seeing all the money wasted, before I learned that could be done.

No answer for me. I'm a member, but not "active" other than paying dues and donating money. Just once I'd like to see somebody compose a poll question that's clear if the choices are yes and no.

I have been a member for 40 years, a Life Member for 36 years and an Endowment Member for just over one year. I have contributed to the Golden Eagles and NRA-ILA.

You sir and others like you, are great Americans.

Salute!

No wonder we have who we have in Office in PA. There would be no pleasing you, so it is good that you're on the grabber's side.

Just signed up for a life membership, I'm a gunner of just over a year now and think it is more important than ever to "stand up and fight".

These summarize my views:

I also plan on joining additional organizations. While the NRA has the most clout and also does the most in terms of total impact of teaching firearms classes, advocating for things, etc, it doesn't hurt to join additional national, state-wide or local gun support groups. We can NOT afford to be divided in such perilous times.

Far from it. The reason I dont back the NRA is they are willing to compromise our rights away. They only give the appearance of fighting for your rights, but will give them up without hesitation, if it suits their needs. As I said before, they need all the drama just as much as the politicians and others they claim to oppose, its what keeps them where they are.

I cant be the only one who has noticed just how weak and wishy washy they seem to be this latest go round either. They certainly arent doing anything to instill confidence. At the very least, they could get some better strategists and spokespeople for your money, dont you think? Or is this your idea of a "good fight"?

As for who we have in office in PA, and the rest of the country as well for that matter, just look in the mirror. If you keep voting for the same old thing, thats all youre going to get. If you want change, you have to make changes, other wise, there never will be any change. We need to break this vicious cycle we're in. Voting Republicrat aint going to get it done.

No, you're not alone. I just don't agree. What are some examples?

Yes, Life, and I e-mail congress, both national and state, at least weekly, using every e-mail address I have.
