Are you excited for the Glock 43?

I already have the +1 and +2 baseplate ready to go on as soon as my Glock 43 comes in [gunsmith friend is getting one for me]. Suddenly, the "only six rounds" thing falls away, and it is smaller in size than the 7 round Shield [or when both have the 8 round magazines in]. So for me, the Glock 43 will be a win. A good size, feel, and all I've seen have run without issue. I'll give my final review when it comes in and I take it to the range.

A friend of mine is a Glock Stocking Dealer, whatever that means. I have had several Glocks in the past, but sold them all when I found a similar gun in a more ergonomic platform. I was ooking over a G23 the other day and it seemed like a pretty cool gun. It didn't seem to point as high as the larger sized Glock cousins. I bought it for $450.00 and it seems like a decent pistol. I already have a Shield and I certainly wouldn't dump a Shield for the G23, but I firgued I should own both. FWIW, Glock Dealers have a required pricing structure so finding one for under $440.00 might take some looking around.

I suspect to sell in places that restrict mag capacities.

I doubt it. With the advent of the NY SAFE act, NYS has the strictest and lowest magazine limit in the country at 7. The G43 could have been a 7+1 and still been NY legal. My guess is they thought 6+1 was a better compromise for size/concealability. It also tosses a fairly large bone to companies like Pierce to make magazine extensions in +1 +2 etc to suit tastes and state legal requirements.

At just six shots wouldn't you guys feel better with a .357? I'm considering a 43 myself so don't get me wrong, but it's hard not to get ansy with only 6 rounds.

the 7 round capacity limit under the NY Safe Act was tossed in court. It is currently 10.

Then the state magazine restrictions point is even less moot than I mentioned. NY HAD the most restrictive magazine law. With that struck down it is not a consideration for why Glock made the G43 a 6+1 over a 7+1.

I would choose the Sig P938 over this Glock for a number of reasons. 7+1 with the pinky mag, much more concealable, not plastic, etc.

I do understand that the Sig may be too small for some shooters.

I felt the exact same way about the P938 until I held the G43. I have carried a P938 for about 3 years in a backup capacity and occasionally as a primary, so I am familiar with it. (I only use the 6 round magazines with the Sig.) The G43 is bigger, but it only weighs .6 ounces more loaded. I was surprised how easily it drew from the pocket. The "hideability" difference is more subtle than I imagined. I can see benefits to both platforms. I no longer consider the P938 an obvious choice between the two. The difference would be even less, or even tip it in favor of the Glock, if I were carrying the 7 round magazines in the Sig, because the size and weight differential disappears.
