I'm thinking about trading.
I own a glock 30. I really like it. It's soft shooting, accurate, and fires 230 grains of goodness. It is very difficult to conceal though. It only gets maybe 10% of my carry time.
I shot a glock 27 over the weekend. I'm fairly accurate with it. It seems much easier to conceal.

Both are reliable.
The 30 gets a tiny slight nod for accuracy.
27 for concealability.
30 for caliber, but I am confident in a 40 caliber.
40 is cheaper than 45 for practice.

SHOULD I MAKE A TRADE HIGH ROAD???

Or should I just work at concealing my glock 30? Buy more holsters and such?

Wait, a 27 and 30? They're both 'subcompact, so aren't they like almost identical in physical dimensions? Just a few millimeters I'd suspect.

To me its the blocky width of a glock that makes it tougher to conceal, no matter which model.

The .40 caliber ballistics are far superior to a 100 year old antique like the .45 ACP in my mind at least.

Hmmmm, I'd want both. No wait, I already own both. 27s the bomb. Optional barrels, mags and Advantage Arms .22 conversion. The 30 is a .45. Tough choice.

How do you carry the 30?

Well right now I carry the glock 30 in either a smartcarry or in a front pocket holster. I also have a glock sport combat holster that doesn't carry very tightly against me. It seems that anywhere I carry it, it's just HYOOGE. I am open to any suggestions though.

What does the age of the cartridge have to do with it?

The .40 is faster, but there's a reason they refer to .45ACP as "The Flying Ashtray". A 230 grain chunk of lead imparts a heck of a lot of energy to it's target, and leaves a BIG hole behind.

To the OP - since they are virtually the same size, it seems to me that the thing you'd be worried about is weight. Now, I have no idea how much of a difference there is between the two, but I do know that .45 ACP can add up quick.

That said, front-pocket carry seems like a less-than-ideal for such a large pistol. I mean yeah, it's a subcompact, but it ain't no Kel-tec, ya know? If it were me, I'd see what I could accomplish by experiementing with a fw different holsters/carry methods before swapping for essentially the same gun in a different caliber.

Consider a Crossbreed holster, they are pretty practical and comfortable.

If not go with the always slim and slick 1911.

The 29/30 is about the same size as the standard caliber compacts. The 26/27/28/33 are significantly smaller.

No. I had a Glock 30 and although it was accurate, I sold it because the slide is significantly wider than G27 and the grip is much bulkier. G30 is more on par with G19/G23 in size. It is more compact size and not a true subcompact. It is also heavier to carry, especially with 10+1 rounds of 45ACP vs 40S&W. After an extended camping trip of several days of carrying, G30 got replaced with G27.

For me, Glock 27 happily replaced the G30. G27 is same size as G26 with marginally more weight. I have +1 Pearce grip mag base extension for 10+1 capacity. I do not feel underpowered with 165 gr Golden Saber JHP as I can shoot the G27 as accurate as my match G22s. G27 allows me to carry G22 HiCap mags for spare. I use Fobus paddle holster and after a few minutes, I can't even tell G27 is there. G30 always reminded me it was there.

Yes, 40 is cheaper to shoot than 45, but I do even better. I use Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel and shoot the much cheaper 9mm for practice. Since I can even shoot lead bullets with less concern, I reload Missouri Bullets 125 gr smallball RN near max with the cheap Promo powder - costs around $4/50 - about twice the price of 22LR! The cases don't bulge in tight LW chamber and resizing them is a dream. Having done match shooting for years, trigger time is everything and you can't shoot any cheaper than this.

The best pistol to carry is the pistol you can shoot fast and accurate. Speed and accuracy comes with deliberate practice. Trigger time = practice. I have over 5000+ rounds of practice on the G27 and I can now draw and double tap on multiple targets as fast as my match G22.

Check out the speed and accuracy of G27 on this video.

I say if you can look into a crossbreed supertuck and a good solid belt and as others have said dress around the gun. Other than that it really is up to you. You can't go wrong with either cartridge.

If concealment is a problem, you need to adjust your wardrobe first.

Otherwise, you start on the slippery slope that leads you to some pea-shooter crammed in your pants pocket.
Which is wrong
Excellent advice. Dress around the pistol. A good stiff belt and a couple inches larger in pants size goes a long ways.

Thank's y'all. I'm going to be getting a crossbreed supertuck and keeping my glock 30. Maybe a few years down the road I'll get a 27 as well.
