Hi folks, long time lurker, first time poster.

Here's my situation: I just acquired an old Arisaka rifle that was at some point rechambered to 257bob-6.5. I do not (yet) reload and have no way to procure ammo. Is it possible to have the rifle again rechambered to accept 6.5x57 Mauser, a cartridge that is readily available? If not, might you have any other suggestions for a functional rechamber?

Thanks for any help.

Do you mean 6.5x55 Mauser??

If so, no, you can't.

The case shoulder on the Roberts is almost 1/4" further into the chamber then the 6.5x55.

I do believe that 6.5X57 is more readily available than 6.5-257Bob. I am also open to suggestions. I am trying to avoid this rifle becoming a money pit. A rechamber and recrown are within my budget. A rebarrel or rebore, not so much.

Thanks again for the help so far.

6.5x57 ammo is available from several sources, or at least they advertise it. Since the .257 Roberts was a necked down 7x57, and the 6.5x57 was also a necked down (not quite so much) 7x57, factory 6.5x57 should be at least worth a try.

Note, though, that for much of its "life" the .257 Roberts was a wildcat cartridge and there were several versions, differing slightly from each other. The Remington factory load is yet another variation, with a different shoulder angle.
