Along with my Lend-Lease Victory model S&W, I received an Arisaka Type 38. Gun appears to be in good shape, has the barrel cleaning stick, no shoulder-strap or dust-guard, and the mum was ground down (you can see some of it still, but mostly gone). The action still appears to be in very good shape and the barrel appears in good shape.

Unfortunately I do not have pictures, so a general range is fine.

Thanks! If I can get some pics, I will post them.

Values vary wildly on Japanese rifles, depending on what exactly you have. Is it long rifle, or carbine? Do the numbers match? Do some more research and figure out what arsenal and series it is. Some of the more uncommon variants can be worth quite a bit to the right collector, while a mixed number shooter is probably $200 or so.

My type 38 is pretty much exactly as you described yours. Matching serials, ground mum partial visible, no dust cover, no sling, cleaning rod included. Mine, based on S#, was made at the Koishikawa Arsenal (Tokyo) between 1906-1935, S# in the 1.7 millions. Creepy thing about this gun is the shortened serial stamped in various parts is 666.

I've never heard of this type of rifle being of a really high value, around $150- $200 in its condition. An intact mum is more highly prized, and will increase the value. There were lots of Arisaka rifles made and brought back from the Pacific. Mine was a bring back from my step-dads father, who served in both theatres, and picked this rifle up when stationed in Japan as part of the Army of Occupation. Mosin Nagants are much more abundant, and their ammo is still cheap. The Arisaka rifles I've seen for sale have been slightly higher value than the run of the mill Mosin, but not by much.

That's interesting. Most wholesalers get 79 to 99 bucks for mosins, hex or round, before delivery. I have a 38 with an intact mum, strap, and bayo in 90% condition but I would love to get another for 150 or 200 to shoot because that is a real low price. If you want to my c+r can be in the mail anytime. I would not take less than 450 for mine; it's the best constructed military rifle I own. 500 with the bayo.
