So I'm eyeing up an arisaka type 38 from 1917 with the mum and would like to know what the zero is for the lowest setting. I ask this because I would like to know if I can hunt and what not at shorter ranges.
-Thanks :D

OP, welcome to the forums.
My 38's shoot similar to Loonwulf's 99's - high at hunting distances (for me).
Never bothered to measure, but never had to hold over a target or raise the sight!

Curious as to your method of dating on the 38.
I have not seen yearly production figures out of the Royal Arsenal.

A Type 38 from that era would have some collector potential, especially if it was all there and was straight.
Most got used up in the Asian campaigns long before the U.S. got directly involved,
and many of those that still had a spark of life were pulled from service for training purposes.
Sounds interesting.

Do you not take your hunting weapons to a range or at least shoot them in the field before shooting at game? I have at least half a dozen Arisakas including three Type 38's and wouldn't expect any of the sights to be consistent in their settings without actually checking where my aimpoint causes a bullet to hit. Your aiming and shooting methods can be widely varied from what the Japanese military required.

My inter-war T38 carbine hits 4 inches high at 100 yds with my reloads.

I love the little bugger. Its so light and still packs a wallop at 300 yds.
