I got my new AR-10A4BF last night and ran a few patches dosed with CLP. Cleaned up very nicely and very quickly.

I'm going to have to order a .308 comparator cartridge for bullet seating purposes. In the meantime I'm going to use the cannelure on the 150 grain Hornady SST bullets and do a light crimp. Going to start out using new Winchester brass, Winchester WLR primers, Hornady 150 grain SST's, and Reloader 15 (43.5 grains).

Anybody seating to the cannelure, or are you seating to kiss the lans?

Thanks!:)

AR-10 Loads & Comparitor

Save your money on a comparitor cartridge for the 308. Seems most of my friends have the same opinion, and some of them are NBRSA Champions. 308 likes to be seated out long. And some longer than the maximum published OAL. Like the LaPua 154gr Scenar. I have my best results with Sierra 155gr bullets. Doesn't particularly care if they're the Palma or not. Varget is the pet powder for many match shooters because of the low residue. I used 42.5gr and shot some nearly one holers.

Armalite does a fine job on those barrels and you'll have a hard time getting it to shoot worse than ½ MOA with loads you make with weighed powder charges. At least that's been my experience. I even have some Ram Shot TAC loads that shoot great, but require cleaning about every 60 rounds as the black gook builds up just ahead of the chamber.

Let us know what you find.

I agree with most of the previous post and especially Varget powder. I use the cheap Hornady 150 grain FMJ with about 42.3 grains of Varget and load to a max OAL of 1.275". My LR308 shoots 1 MOA all day long and in crosswind as well. Great round the 308 and fun to reload as well. I get a minimum of 8 to 12 loadings out of the same brass without signs of fatigue. That is the primary reason I load just a little light as to keep the brass healthy longer.

Robert,

the maximum cartridge OAL length can't be 1.275" for the .308 Winchester or the 7.62 x 51mm cartridges.:uhoh: Maybe it was a typo? Can you correct this, I would like to know what COL you are using.

Thanks!
