Armed America Photo Book

I have the book and would recommend it to all gun owners/collectors and the like.

There are a few anti-statements in the book but I think that is just part of the culture of fire-arms that the author wanted to pass along.

Its a great gift or just a perfect coffee table piece.

I am not sure about the political bent of the author and his own bias. After looking through the book at a local book store, I am not sure how to read it. For the most part it seems unpolitical but some of the images and comments make me believe this could be a subversive anti gun piece. Or at least the photographer is slipping in some of his own bias into the pictures. It does show a broad range of gun owners, but in some ways it makes us look more frightening than normal. How many people pose with a machine gun, and their children? Any anti that I know that saw that would flip, and send more many to the Brady's. I can see antis getting riled up after reading this book. Maybe I am reading to much into this book, but knowing antis they will do anything to push their agenda.

This reminds me that back in the mists of time I did pretty much this same book: Gun People, published in the early '80s by Doubleday/Dolphin, authors Patrick Carr (myself) and George Gardiner (photography).

If you watched the video, the photographer mentions how anti-gun people would be like "oh those guys look like idiots" and gun owners would think "wow this is great, this is showing that we are just other peoples family, friends and coworkers and that we are normal"

I can see it going 2 ways really, I guess an anti could read the book and freak out knowing someone has that kind of firepower or feel that it's sickening that children are around their parents with guns, in other ways it sort of gives gun owners a human aspect that they are just like everyone else, they have taste in nice homes, they love pets and they have families, etc.

I got my book today and it was pretty good. Full of a lot of high resolution pictures with a person explaining why they own guns, most get straight to the point while others explain they have it for hunting. There were a few anti comments, one in particular was a guy who had a lamp made out of some old gun and claimed that handguns should be banned as well as as few other anti-gun comments but overall it was mainly positive. Some of the houses were quite classy as well that they live in.

The cover picture is a member of GlockTalk and his family. Saw him post about this a few days ago over there.

I've read it, nice book.

Four of the males are wearing kilts, not that thats a bad thing. :D

Some mislabeled guns and a a passage referring to the John Locke's theory that more guns = less crime.

Other than that, it was great.

One incongruity though was this pair of plus-sized middled-aged women who had a Lord of the Rings poster on the wall and hippie candles on the shelf of their crowded-with-stuff den and yet not one cat in the photo. I mean c'mon. No cats?

I think they were lesbians, one had a pink pistol shirt on.

I wondered why so many were wearing kilts, are they scottish?

I noticed that sometimes there were more guns labeled then were show in certain cases, did anyone else notice that?

Yes the gun list were not always right. Some lists only listed one gun when many were present and vice versa. A small error it didn't bother me.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. Just at a glance, I would have liked to see more clean cut looking people, maybe I just missed them. I got the sense that there were a lot of tattooed folks in there giving it a rebel feel. I'll look more tonight.

There are people of all types in it. I know some people in the book are members of many gun forums like GlockTalk and Floridashootersnetwork just to name a couple.

Well for one things the Scots like things that go BOOM!

Second we like to be able to defend ourselves, other crazy drunk scots are scary!!!:what:

Lastly Guns are our culture, kilts are part of the culture, they blend together very well. Both are strong signs of independence.

Both make leftist*s squirm!

*(not to disparage those on this board that claim to be liberals, speaking generally of course)

I showed my mother the book, just a few glances she was freaking out like "Oh my god, look at those people!" and I was saying "what's wrong? They look like they are well dressed, nice homes, look like normal people" and she was saying "they look like psychos, something wrong with them." She said she'll look at the rest tomorrow, oh well, guess i'll share it with some coworkers.

So Austen on page 20 is a psycho?
The family on page 94?
Pg 116, 168, 176, 196, and 206?

That's just me flipping through picking random people. If she says yes to all those being psychos. Then maybe you should look into checking her into a mental institution.
