Armscor Rock Island Arsenal 1911 copy

I've got two RIA/Armsor guns up over 10000 rounds and no issues any worse than with my Colt that has a similar round count (this Colt has been my worst out of the box experience ever, purchased circa 1984, but its been fine once the initial problems were solved and I learned a lot about the 1911 in the process of fixing it).

I'm very curious about what types of problems you had, and how they were resolved. Can you tell us more about that please?

From what I've read about the RIA on

http://forums.1911forum.com/

the guns work fine. One of the RIA folks posts there from time to time and appears interested in putting a quality product out at the best possible price.

If going from the stock 16lb spring to a 17.5lb spring fixed it, I'd bet so would a little more break-in shooting. My newest RIA Tactical was "Kimber tight" but was 100% out of the box. Also the springs in the ACT/Novak mags RIA is suppling are very stiff and contributes to the potential for initial "break-in" problems. I didn't use the factory mag until I'd had a couple of hundred rounds thru mine as I've a lot of "known good" mags and mostly use them.

I generally use an 18lb spring, but only to keep the brass closer to me as at our range it doesn't have to fly very far to have a high lost in the weeds percentage. Basically I stick with the stock spring until I start losing too much brass.

We just started selling these 1911's this week (April '07), and I'm unsure of
the pricing at this time? I looked two of these models over while they were
in the receiving department; and they looked and felt well built, but the jury
is still out as to how well they will sell in my area~! :scrutiny: :uhoh: ;)

Mine is a STI Spartan. Fitting could be better on the mainspring housing to the frame, but otherwise I was very impressed. It has feed everything even large mouth hollowpoints. Wish I still had some 200gr. flying ashtrays left over to try. Maybe except for the STI parts everything else being done in house allows more quality control over the other parts and fitting it just works better than some other copies of the 1911 where parts come from all over the world. Maybe that's why the Norinco was so good too.
