I could understand getting a citation, and possibly confiscating the firearm (if the guy was drunk or something, but this guy wasn't) but what evidence was available in the downtown police station that wasn't available at the restaurant? The guy was released after being thoroughly humiliated and hauled downtown.
Clearly the guy didn't keep his booger hook off the trigger when he went to adjust the gun.
Isn't this a little like impounding every car and arresting every person for speeding? Speeding is dangerous. But wait, speeding is on purpose. This was an accident. Moral of the story, don't touch the trigger unless you're ready to fire, and don't make a mistake-EVER. Mistakes are not allowed.

I'm sure he was questioned BEFORE he was arrested and hauled downtown. What more is there to ask? I think that line in the story was accidentally honest. The poor guy was truly questioned UNTIL they "decided" they were done with him.and he was questioned at the police station until officers decided the gun was accidentally discharged.
Clearly the guy didn't keep his booger hook off the trigger when he went to adjust the gun.
