Umm...sorry?? haha

Johnbt: You and others are really missing a major point. You are so intent on trying to bash me for something that I admittedly screwed up on, that you're completely not seeing a bigger picture. Relax for a minute. Now imagine that scenario happening and you are the friend/bystander. An officer is there to arrest your friend, and another one is not only running you for warrants, but also the validity of your cc permit, even though you are inside a private residence. And the other officer is being about as hard-nosed as he can be about wanting to take YOUR firearms that are there legally. You seem to have a very cavalier attitude by essentially saying "that's what you get".
I've been waiting for 120-something posts for this to be discussed. Instead, there have been a quite few shots at the easy target without addressing all the issues, especially the gun-related ones.

Some of you guys that think it is so bad to enforce the laws as they are written remind me of when I used umpire High School baseball games. Before each game we'd go over the ground rules and the coaches would exchange lineups. Just as we were ready to breakup I'd say, "OK coaches, you two agree on what rules of the game you don't want me to enforce and let me know now." I started doing this after the hell I caught for ringing a kid up, on appeal, for missing third base during his homerun trot.
I heard the same thing for the hot check warrants, "Why aren't you out there catching rapists and murderers?"
Same thing for the violation of probation warrants. "They ain't done nothing wrong, they just haven't reported or paid their fines and fees. Why aren't you out there catching rapists and murderers?"

Why don't all of you folks get together and go down to the Chief's, or Sheriff's or DA's office and tell them that you don't want these laws enforced in your community. And if they persist, vote their sorry a.... out next election.

Once a warrant is issued here (Iowa) a officer will make a arrest if the person can be located.
A JUDGE ORDERS THE ARREST
This is not a area where a officer can use his discretion.

A service fee will be charged for making the arrest. The county is paying the deputy already, serving the warrant recoups the part of deputy's salary.Every warrant served will justify manpower.

Larger departments may have deputy's strictly assigned to arrest warrants. If the regular deputy's are not responding to calls they better be checking warrants or serving civil papers both pay the county service fees.

A fresh warrant is usually the quick arrest, the person doesn't have time to start avoiding the officers.

Some officers are dicks while doing the job, the same as other public servants can be.

OK, I'll give my two cents worth after 120 posts about the issue the OP has asked about again. We don't know how this looked from the standpoint of the LEO's on scene - what background they had been given - if they are serving a warrant to someone who was denied the ability to purchase a firearm and walk into an environment where there are a significant number of firearms on display I would think it prudent for their own safety and that of the community to verify the background and legality of those engaged in handling the aforementioned firearms. I don't know the various implications of probable cause as it would apply here when they serve a warrant on an armed man, but the fact is that they did not confiscate any firearms or cause (if I recall) any further difficulty for the other party once they had the situation assessed. I can just imagine the uproar if they walked into an environment where a real bad guy and confederates were actually preparing for trouble and they did not verify who and what and something blew up two days down the road. I can't get too upset about what the one may have wanted to do given that they did not act on those desires (I may want a beer during the middle of a tough work day but my boss isn't likely to be too upset unless I actually go have one! :D )

Several posts are agreeing with your claim that it is ridiculous to be arrested for a non moving violation. That was not the offense--You were arrested for failure to appear. It could have been spitting on the sidewalk--You disrespect a judges time, you get arrested. Others have suggested that these deputies are going to be mighty busy in a county of 400,000; well, obviously they had time to come get you, and I seriously doubt you were a special case. I suspect the docket in Colorado Springs is clipping along just fine, and they are likely proud of running a tight ship.

Renewing registration here is cheap and easy, yet often is not done. The reasons for not being able to register include no insurance, unauthorized driver, suspended license, suspended registration, habitual offender, stolen vehicle, unsafe vehicle, equipment violation, fraudulent sticker, unpaid taxes, unpaid child support, or what have you. Some of this stuff eventually implicates public safety.

Interesting Duke of Doubt. being required to register a stolen vehicle would be a violation of the 5th amendment guarantee against self-incrimination.

Bingo. It's not just the judge's time. It's the PEOPLES time. The OP is breaking the law, wasting taxpayer dollars. He said he went to the ADA and got charges dismissed. Why, prey tell, didn't he do that to start with? "I forgot to get my car registered", "I forgot to go to my court date", "I didn't get any sleep", wah, wah, wah. C'mon man, take some personal responsibility and get your act together. Be a role model to your kids, stop flaunting the law, have fun with your THR buddy. It's a lot easier just write a check and put it in the mail than it is to make bail, and you don't have to worry about police knocking at your door at odd hours of the day.

He said he went to the ADA and got charges dismissed.

No, I didn't.

When I finally got to speak with the ADA, I provided my proof on insurance and registration and he dismissed the charges.

Each sentence that you wrote is completely incorrect. Try reading comprehension sometime, you might like it. How funnythat you try to preach about taking responsibility while you distort the truth while attacking someone. Maybe you missed the multiple parts where I specifically said that I was wrong...that is taking responsibility. And you must've missed the part where I mentioned that there is no writing a check or mailing it in, that I had to go in to the court...no option.
