I had only fired this gun at 50 yards prior to this trip. It felt great, no issues through 200 rounds, and the red dot stayed zeroed the whole time. That was 4 months ago. Took it out today. Still was holding its zero, but boring as hell to shoot paper with at 50 to 100 yards.

Enter 200 to 500 yard steel pigs and chickens. I was hitting 400 and 500 yards about 50 percent of the time. The gun really shone at 300 yards. The red dot maintained its zero the whole time. That's about 500 rounds now....and the sight got quite hot...no problems. This ak really feels right, and the red dot makes it complete in my estimation. I'm big on military arms, and I think arsenal is making weapons that are at the top of the heap.

Forgot to mention, I exclusively use crapco mags, which I have yet to have an issue with. Though, truth be told, I have not dropped mag or weapon to test durability, or run over it with a car, or beat it with anything.

it's forward mounted on a midwest industries rail system that came new with the rifle. as i mentioned before, the sight got pretty hot. we'll see how this plays out over time.

Pictures?

How much hold over did you need for the longer shots?

I've taken my AK out to 300 yards and feel it is adequate for that range. But I know that with a 200 yard zero I have to account for about a foot and a half of drop at that range. That means I am barely still on the target with my hold--about dead on the T-box keeps them around the lower chest and abdomen. I've never taken the cartridge much farther, esp on paper, but I would imagine drop would become an issue, esp with an unmagnified red dot and no BDC.

I was surprised to find that I had to compensate very little at 300 yards. I basically had the bottom of the dot flush with the top of the silhouette. At 200 I was a shade high when aiming center mass. My 400 and 500 yard hits were of course aimed ridiculously high. I think the dot on the primary arms must be like 4 moa.

Which model PA sight? I've been thinking of trying their micro dot, gen 3 on a riser for an AR setup. The rifle is just for fun, so the price seems right...

Gen 2 I think. It didn't come with a riser. Why not go for it? People continually testify as to their sturdiness, and supposedly their customer svc0is stellar. I think mine was 90 bucks?

why use tapco mags? There are steel surplus mags for not even 10$ at aim surplus. I use those only on my AK, they are fantastic.

I wanted all new stuff on this rifle, and I personally really don't like the idea of used mags. I know the reputation commie steel mags have, but I the tapcos have been functioning fine, and I'm no ak purist anyway.

Personally, I'd have much more faith in the steel commie mags than a Tapco mag, particularly for durability. However, if your mags work for you then great.
