Well I'll be the first to admit that I have made mistakes and had triggers get snagged or bolts slam home when I wasn't expecting it. That is why I am careful where I point the guns and I don't mess with them when they are loaded. I have seen people who know better make mistakes and fire guns into the dirt, but they were at least following that one rule.

Its takes eternal vigilance to truly prevent mistakes. As soon as you think you will never do it, you'll do it.

First of all - the father is NOT an idiot - he is not a child abuser and absolutely under no circumstances would he intentionally put his child at risk. He DID NOT point the gun at the child - if you are at all familiar with that type of gun you know that after you clean it you need to put a cartridge in to make sure that you have put it together corectly - and target rounds are the same color as the pin that pushes up the next round into the chamber - not copper like a normal round

Bullfeathers. You do not have to chamber a cartridge in an AR15 to make sure "you have put it back together correctly."

Why would you chamber a round in your home in preparation for going hunting or target shooting? Why would you pull the trigger?

A lot more information has to come out before I believe this guy isn't incredibly negligent, ignorant of firearms handling procedures, or mentally deficient. Poster child for "Some people shouldn't have guns."

Sheetrock is no match for a military cartridge
Sheetrock is no match for any cartridge, or even a pellet gun. I used peices of sheetrock as outside 50 yard targets for my air rifle. Easy penetration.
