Retired Delta Pilot asked TSA what to do with his pistol, and they told him how to check it at the counter. Instead, he hid it inside a planter at the airport, intending to retrieve it when he got back from his flight.

Really? I don't understand why this guy didn't either A) follow procedure or B) just leave the gun at home, but this is one of the dumbest airport stories I've read in a while, and TSA isn't even at fault!

Well, good thing he's been, or is, "retired" as a commercial pilot as that kind of decision says a lot to me about his thinking process..

Not good - scary

Brought my multi-tool with me into DC (oops!) small 2-in blade kept me from visiting the Jefferson Library.

Security told me to hide it outside.

Hid it under a traffic cone and retrieved it a few hours later, then took the metro home.

Flying with a gun today is really not that hard. Had he done the correct thing and checked the firearm, and he should have known this, then all would have been well. But since the only thing firearms related in the story is some really poor desicion making skills about traveling with one this is pretty much OT for THR.
