Not the way it's described by the news and anti-gunners!

As gun sales soared into record highs, accidental gun deaths sank to record lows

Brandon Morse 1 hour

According to new information out of the National Safety Council (NSC), an interesting statistic has surfaced that may surprise many gun control advocates.

Despite gun sales having reached lofty heights over the past two years, the NSC states in its “injury report” that in 2015 accidental deaths by guns is down to an all time low of 489. As the Washington Examiner points out, that’s 0.3% of all deaths, making it the lowest it’s been since 1903 when this record keeping began.

“That’s about three-tenths of 1 percent of the 146,571 total accidental deaths from all other listed causes. The decrease came in a year that saw record firearms sales to many millions of Americans,” according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry’s representative.

That's accidental deaths. Suicides, probably not included, are always pointed out as gun deaths in most statistics on the matter. Total firearm fatalities may not have changed, and that's what gun control groups will point to.

Unfortunately, people who are serious about killing themselves will always find a means, be it firearms or otherwise.

Yes, and unfortunately, just like all crime and accidents where someone had(has) a gun, the anti-rights bigots blame suicides by firearms on easy access, instead of whatever or whoever committed the crime, caused the accident, or reasoned the suicide in the first place.:(

Yep. In Japan, with virtually no guns in private hands, suicide rate is many times that of U.S. Different culture.

Hmm, that's not what I found. I just checked several sources including Wikipedia, The Washington Post, and others, and depending on who you believe, the rate is anywhere from 1.5 to 1.9 times higher, not even twice as many. Definitely not "many times".

Now Guyana on the other hand, number one suicide spot on everybody's list, the rate is over twice as high as Japan's, and about 3 1/2 times as high as the US. I have no idea what the gun culture is like there though.

I stand corrected.

I just wish they would quit using that stupid 'Firearms Registered by State' graphic. It only counts NFA firearms and they do nothing to explain what it means. A lot of those (non-gun folks) that live in restricted states think all states have registration. That myth is promoted in movies, TV, and the news media. They have no way of knowing how many guns are in the free states, or are illegally owned in the other states.
