QUOTE: "I wonder how she tells the story of the "debate"?"

Are you kidding? she walked out of that class room 100% convinced that she won because of all her "research". She's also convinced that she holds the moral high ground because guns are eeeeeeevil. She made it CRYSTAL clear in class , the only thing she was concerned W/ was her opinion.

I think I won the "debate" in the instructors eyes & I really believe the rest of the class thinks I was trying to help her get a better grade on her paper. It turns out that a few of the class are gun owners as well & I saw the light bulb go off infront of a couple of heads

All in all I think we won this one.

Her Response
I'd make them

If you could some how magically make people obey a law you would not need gun laws as one could make a murder law that everyone would obey. Unless she thinks murder by other methods is OK.

Sadly, we see what we are dealing with.

These people's emotions are weighed on the same level as our FACTS.
And their vote count the same, too.
It seems that many "Antis" always revert to the "I just think guns should be banned".
To which you reply, "Ah, so you believe [feel] that those with the greater physical strength should should always be in control?"

I made the mistake of saying "I think..." in a college-level paper. The professor candidly informed me he did not care what "I think" since I am an authority on nothing. He wanted facts, and if facts were not available, hypotheses and theories from those far smarter than myself would suffice. Proper citations were also a requirement.

Never made THAT mistake again!

I've come away from that with a more suspicious and skeptical outlook on life. Sadly, politicians are some of the most frequent users of "I think" and "I feel." That poses two issues: one, the credibility issue I mentioned above and two, as an elected representative you should not be saying "I". It should be "My constituents".
