Ask Wal-Mart to carry 10mm ammo

It would be great if they could just keep what they do carry in stock all the time.
Don't press your luck asking them to be out-of-stock on 10mm too!

They may get so tired of back-ordered ammo taking up empty shelf space they just stop fooling with it all together.

I wish my WM was out of .30carbine, 7.62x25tok, and 9x18mak, that would be nice.

Actually, there's generally ammo in common calibers at all the local WMs, I saw three kinds of some new caliber I'd never seen before last weekend, I think it was "thirty-eight zero" or something ... some kind of mousegun loading, I guess.

What's next, a boycott?

Uh............instead of online petitions, letter writing and burning Sam Walton in effigy have you tried asking the sporting goods manager to order you some 10mm?

WalMart can get anything their distributors have in stock.

They'll probably order it for you but make you buy the whole case plus their profit margins.

Why not just order it from the internet or your LGS instead? Assuming you can find it, that is...

My WM just now got some .45 ACP after over two years of not having any. I'm not going to hold out that they are going to be willing to add yet another caliber. Even if they do, they'll probably never have it in stock.

Walmart folks will just tell you to buy 10mm S&W revolver and shoot .40S&W out of it. There is always plenty of that at Walmart shelves.

the walmart folks around here would never come close to that quality of advice. i cant even count how many times in the past ive asked for 30-30 win and they think that a box of 30-06 will work because the numbers look pretty close:what::banghead:

ive also asked what types of .22 magnum they have in stock and after several minutes of confused searching they ask me if i want the long ones or the short ones? now its my turn for the puzzled look....i figured he was looking at .22LR and .22short so i attempt to clarify; "no, sorry. i mean .22 magnum. it will say .22mag, .22magnum, or .22WMR." "yeah, do you want the long ones or the short ones?".........:scrutiny: uhhhhh....i didnt really know what to say at this point but the attendent decided to clarify the situation and show me the different types of .22 mag they had in stock. he brought up a box of .22LR and a box of .22 mag.....now i get it....long and short. i decided to call it a day and buy from someone else.

the best i have ever had to hope for at walmart is that one of the ladys who will admit to knowing nothing about ammo will just tell me to come around the counter and point to what i want. i make a point to thank these individuals because they just saved us both a lot of time.

as far as the 10mm at walmart, i would rather that they stock the popular ammo before they introduce new calibers. i havent seen more than one box of .357mag, .44mag, .45acp, or .38spl in a loooong time. any handgun ammo they do have is always the cheapest fmj with basicly no HP ammo ever! some actual defense ammo would be prefered long before they try to stretch themselves even thinner on ammo.

I bought some Federal .45 ACP 230gr FMJ's from walmart the other day and noticed they have smaller primers then the PMC ammo I had bought... Is there any difference performance wise or for reloading?

Why bother? If Wal*Mart thought it would be profitable they would already have it on the shelf.

In retail, shelf space is gold. You don't stock anything that you can't extract the maximum profit from. 10mm is (let's be honest) a relatively unpopular caliber when compared to something like .380 or 9mm Luger. Very few new guns are chambered for 10mm today. Not sayin' that there isn't a lot of fans of the .40 Magnum, just that there aren't that many compared to something else.

If you figure the number of Wal*Mart stores, and then figure the number of 10mm ammo boxes that would sell in a Wal*Mart, I bet the number averages out to maybe one box per store per year. For the trouble of adding it to a plan-o-gram, it isn't worth the small profit they would get back.

I was quite honestly surprised to see that the Meijer store near me has a slot for 32-20 Winchester rifle ammo (that is never filled).

My local large gunstore has, IIRC, two types of 10mm on the shelf plus a 'premium' self defense choice. Compare that to at least SIX types of Makarov ammo not including surplus.

In my area the Stink-mart barely carries any hunting equipment or ammo:cuss:They got scared off buy anti-gun folks:mad:The meijer stores are just as bad they SUCK also.I try to use my local gunshop.

This is what I heard about a year ago or more, Wal-Mart was limiting the number of stores that sold firearms (long-guns) They would select a store with the best sales & no other Wal-Mart within 100 mile radius would sell guns, but most would carry a limited supply of ammunition. In my city we have 3 Wally worlds and 2 others in a small towns within 26 miles & 35 miles away, of those only 1 carries guns for sale, while all sell some ammo. LM

@ dogtown: Uhh, yeah, I understand that. Getting it cheaper is always (almost) good. THing is, WHY should Wal*mart carry it so you can get it cheaper? They have to see profitability. There's no harm in asking, but they see things in terms of thousands of units per month. If you can show that there are literally thousands of people willing to buy 2-3 boxes of 10mm a month for an extended period of time, sure, they might consider it. But you and I both know that's not going to happen.
You could make this argument for a number of good calibers. Why not- 32 S&W Long? 38 Super? Heck, 327 Federal Magnum? None of them are represented at Wal*mart.

evan price :.... Why not- 32 S&W Long? 38 Super? Heck, 327 Federal Magnum? None of them are represented at Wal*mart.
Maybe not at YOUR WalMart.....but ones near me carry .38 Super & 327 fed Mag. They don't keep eleventy dozen boxes, but there are a couple in the case everytime I go by. Heck, The WM closest to me even carries .303 Who shoots that old stuff?:D

LightningMan This is what I heard about a year ago or more, Wal-Mart was limiting the number of stores that sold firearms (long-guns) They would select a store with the best sales & no other Wal-Mart within 100 mile radius would sell guns...
I can guarantee you that that isn't true. There are dozens of WalMarts in the Dallas- Ft Worth area that carry guns. There are six within a twenty minute drive from my home that have guns.

They'll pick up 10mm as soon as they pick up .45gap, that'll be right about...never. There's just not enough demand for it. I hope I'm wrong, but I highly doubt they will.

Here are reasons I buy ammo at Walmart:

It's across the street from Whole Foods Market where I get my food.
The prices are very favorable.
Due to high turnover the ammo is always fresh.
