M14 DCM petition

BTW, it's the CMP now, and has been for quite some time.
They had M-14 parts for a while about 4-5 years ago, but with the action in the desert most M-14's and parts have went back into service.

Complete waste of time. The CMP director is on record as saying "ain't gonna happen."

Garands were released to the CMP by the Army. The Army has never released M14's. Many of them are now in use and will be for some time since the SASS (Semi-Automatic Sniper System) hasn't been type certified and won't be soon.

In fact, BATF went around and collected up some ex-USGI receivers that had been improperly demilled a while back. I know a collector who had one.

Send CMP an email - www.odcmp.com - and ask directly, and you can hear it from them.

Why not sign a petition to have Angelina Jolie do a lapdance for my 36th birthday?

That's got a better chance.

hey, i'll sign that petition too. i think it's important to let people know how we feel even if our chances of sucess are slim to none. why should you be cowed into silence? some retarded bureaucrat makes a politically motivated decision and you just shut up and go "yes, sir,"? i'm sorry that i don't meet your lofty standards. i'm sorry that i intend to maintain hope. wait, no i'm not.

Once a machine gun...

Always a machine gun. Remember that, and choose your fights carefully. ;)

Frankly, CMP can't do anything about the situation. Neither can the BATF&E, although it's doubtful they'd want too. If you want to petition somebody, go after your Congress-critters because they are the only ones who can do something. But don't hold your breath, other then a handful they don't give a hoot if you can get an semi-14 or not. :cuss: :banghead:

I signed the petition. If only for a couple of reasons. One, it's addressed to all of those "congresscritters." And two, the worst thing they can do when the 22,000 signatures are submitted is what? "No."

Doesn't cost us anything to sign it. Might miss out if we don't.

Exactly the reason I signed it. Took maybe 3 minutes out of my day to read it and put in my name and address. If it works, great. If it doesmt, I wasted 3 minutes. I spend more than 3 minutes a day picking my nose so its no big loss.

I signed the M14 petition. It can't hurt. I hauled one around southwest Germany for a year or so (without "da switch"), and I'd buy one if CMP sold them.

I didn't see the other petition. Happy birthday anyway, Swingset.

Regards.

I might suggest that instead of "signing the petition", you folks might join the CMP.

Get involved in a significant way.

AJNTSA.

There are no "surplus" M-14s to be given away, even if the "once a machinegun, always a machingun" rule was rescinded. A bunch of them were given away as foreign aide and the rest of them are seeing use as DMRs in the WOT.

I dont know about that...

I saw a program on the History channel or Discovery channel that had the history of the firearms used in American battles and they went into a warehouse that housed thousands of surplus weapons. Everything from 1911s to the M14. I dont remember exact numbers but the sheer volume had me rather shocked.

I watched the same show. Those are army museum pieces. The army has a lot of them, but they are not exactly surplus.

Several Baltic countries received M-14 rifles during the 90s, we gave them out like party favors to a number of countries.

We also cut up almost all the WW2 leftovers in federal and state armories, including many firearms perfectly legal to sell to anyone.

Online petitions by people from diverse states have as zero weight with congress. If you're serious stop huffing and puffing and write your congressional delegation.

Lets see, I'll write Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Marty Meehan - nevermind....

To all the naysayers: It can't hurt to sign, and it gives a number to gun owners. The politicians need to see numbers, because it represents votes.

I tried to sign the petition, but it said something about the website not supporting it or something like that. It wouldn't let me click the button for "signing" it.

Old, old news. I signed it a year or two ago, but I ain't gonna hold my breath about anything happening. Mainly 'cause with all the ruckus in the sandbox, M14s are back in high demand, and as others have said, ATF sez "Once a machine gun, always a machine gun." And the DCM is dead and gone.

Anyone know why the CMP dosn't sell M1 Carbines

They don't have enough carbines in good shape to sell. Really.

The CMP used to sell carbines to CMP affiliated clubs for use in youth shooting programs. The carbines were the property of the club. About two or three years ago the CMP quietly expanded that program so that any MEMBER of a club with a youth shooting program could buy a CMP carbine for $350. The member had to produce a letter authorizing the purchase from the club and the club had the right to use the carbine for youth training for one year. But, the gun would be shipped right to the member and it was in his name, not the clubs.

The program was announced kinda quietly and a lot of people never found out about it. It ran for about 6 months and then was discontinued. The CMP said they ended it because they'd exhausted their supply of carbines that were in good enough shape to issue. There weren't as many cabines left in the inventory as their were Garands. The CMP said they'd consider restarting the program if enough servicable carbines turned up in the future.

Don't bet on the CMP restarting that program. But, if they do, it would likely be announced through their on-line mailing list. I reccomend you sign up for the list so you'll get the announcement if they ever restart that sale.
