After all is said I'd have to agree with alexander45. Knowing that I was going into the street tomorrow morning in front of most of the town with my honor and life at stake. I'd be looking at my gun collection and going over their plus's and minus' and I'd end up with the pair I'd shot and handled the most. By most historical accounts that would have been the 51's. I don't doubt that when it became apparent that the fight was going to be at 75 yd. he might have said to himself "damn, should have brought the 44's" but by that time the cards had already been dealt.
