With all this talk of bringing back the assault weapons ban, what's something I should go out and get? An AR-15/M-4, AK clone, Sig 556, etc? Any suggestions welcome. Nothing too crazy like under $2000. Right now I have a Wasr-10 and an SKS.

Since you already have an SKS and a WASR I'd look at am AR in 5.56.

If you've read some of recent post you will see that I'm finally getting a "evil black rifle". I'm not doing it because I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, I don't. I'm doing it because I fear what our elected represenatives will try to cram down our throats in the name of crime control, safety and social harmony.

Another thing to think about is magazines. Stockpile magazines is the lesson I learned from the first ban. It wouldn't hurt to stockpile ammo either and replace it as you shoot it. Just make sure you replace it before you shoot what you have, as ammo is hard to find right now.

I'd say don't waste your money right now.
There's way too much on the plate for Obama already. Nobody in his right mind would try to implement a ban and split the country, when they are up over their head in problems already.
On top of that the prices on anything with "assault rifle" look went up like nuts, the stocks are almost dry, and you will only make some dealer double his money because of the "OMG THE SKY IS FALLING!!"

In two years or so, if the economical and financial situation improves considerable to take some pressure off the new leaders, they may try something.
Just two cents from someone looking at it from the outside.
 
Jaws is correct, the prices of many "assault rifles" has gone up quite a bit lately. Then again, ARs (at least locally) have not been effected as much as AKs and SKSs. In fact, Romanian and WASR AKs aren't much less than Stag ARs in my area.

Del-Ton is one of the few AR makers that have not raised their prices. And they make very high quality ARs. I have one of their midlength kits assembled on a Doublestar lower, and with Magpul PMAGs the gun has worked flawlessly. Plus, the folks at Del-Ton are a pleasure to do business with, at least in my experience.

You'd be getting ripped off if you bought something now. Or you'd find something that seems pretty affordable, pick it up, and (hopefully)six months down the line you'd be kicking yourself for not waiting. I'd say sit on your cash and watch everyone else panic and horde.
 
I am a big AK man but have owned an AR-15 for 20 years and don't regret my purchase. The super light recoil and funny "Cha-chuuuuung" sound heard through the plastic stock when the weapon is fired should be experienced by all serious firearms enthusiasts.
 
The last ban allowed existing guns to be held. The Cook County assault weapon ban mandated that noncompliant weapons be permanently removed from the county within 90 days :what:. Obama is from Cook County. The thought of a million evil assault weapons in the hands of common citizens galls all good Liberals:barf:

Honestly unless you can find pre election priced rifles I wouldn't bug out too much. Obama seems to want to at least wait to push a ban through. Prices have been coming down and should be at least close to where they started in another half year. If you are only buying in fear and not because you want it for fun then I would wait.
 
The prices are just about starting to go down again now people are realizing that paying 3 or 4 times the cost of a weapon just because of the change in administration was a bit crazy and much of the panic buys are starting to fizzle out. I think we are finally starting to see the Ar-15 bubble burst and prices begin to normalize.
 
Good stuff guys. What about mini-14s/ mini-30s how do those stack up? I'm not really an AR-15 guy, I mostly thought about getting one because they are some common and I thought it would be good to have a more standard weapon. Should I go AR or mini-14?
 
youll hear alot of bad about minis and good
they used to have very thin barrels and would really lose accuracy after a few rapid succession shots from the heat
the new ones have thicker barrels

I need a SHTF firearm (all of mine are old classic ones that'd be impractical in a SHTF situation.)

But since I'd still like to keep it somewhat classic, I'd pick an M1A.
