I fired off a letter a few weeks ago to my two US Senators and Congressman advising them to vote against any renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban.
I received a kind of luke warm response from my Congressman, Sanford Bishop (Democrat). He didn't really seem to make a commitment, just said he thought we needed to enforce the current laws and not make new ones. That was kind of confusing in the context of the AWB, since it is the current law (which he says he would therefore support) but would require new legislation to continue (which I guess he is saying he would not support). Typical politician double speak. I think he is on the fence. Considering his district, though, he may end up not supporting renewal, but I dont think he has a strong personal leaning either way.
However, today I received a letter from Zell Miller, also a Democrat. In it, he says, "I plan to vote against any measure which would continue the Assault Weapons Ban".
It doesnt get much plainer than that. Too bad there aren't more Democrats like Zell.
Keep the pressure on your politicians!!!
I am still waiting on my Republican senator, Saxby Chambliss to write me back, but I am pretty sure from what he has already said that he is voting against renewal.
Anyway, just thought I would pass this along. Zell Miller is a friend to the RKBA, in my humble opinion at least.
