ATF raid in Ohio

What a waste of time

I would imagine this operation was quite a let down and they are putting their best face on it.

The amount of guns and drugs is small time compared to the resources and time put in and the number of arrests made.

When a LEA is proud of a bust or sting they lists the drug amounts seized in kilos not grams. For reference; 1000 grams to a kilo and 454 grams to a pound.

Taking a few pounds of cocaine, less than 2 pounds of crack, some pills and 70 guns and 100's of rounds of ammo - wow! Hundreds of rounds - off the street after spending a year+ putting agents undercover would be a net loss in my book.

I would be curious to know if the guns were seized because they were illegal to own based on the gun itself or because they were part of all evidence seized.

This would have been pretty good had it been just one person but average out the ATF's haul over 64 people and it amounts to spitting into the ocean against the wind.

I buy CCI Standard Velocity .22lr for my High Standard bullseye pistol five THOUSAND rounds at a time.

Not sure that there's a THR thread in this.

Drug dealing and possession of narcotics is against the law, and often the penalties for being convicted include forfeiture of valuable assets involved in those actions. And, of course, felony convictions mean no more gun ownership, period.

Break the law, get caught, lose your guns (along with rather a lot else).

I would imagine that the agencies involved would be much more pleased to be taking 64 people involved with illegal gun & drug sales off the street than that they removed a certain quantity of drugs. Substances/materials/items can be replaced a lot more easily than people and networks.

...

At any rate, the biggest THR-related point seems to be that it does appear that illegal sale/transfer stings are still an ongoing tactic of the BATFE, so, as we always are so careful to caution, know the law and follow it when you sell a gun to someone.

During the time frame, 64 people allegedly sold or traded guns to the agents. As of Tuesday, 47 were reportedly apprehended.

Since when do people at "sporting goods stores" sell guns? xD
This ain't a gunshow, no loophole here!

Sam:
Remember a few months ago when I had first started writing about Operation Fast & Furious, and uncovered a memo sent around by an ATF flack calling for every field office to highlight "any" activities they engaged in to sort of divere public attention to "good" stories about the agency and away from the F&F debacle?

This seems to fall into that category.
I think we ought to keep an eye on this one. I sure will be.

Just sayin'....

:D
