I’ve been wanting a plain Jane 1911A1 for some time, but every time I find one the ejection port is lowered and beveled or something else is just not right.
I saw the ATI GI 1911 on sale over at AIM Surplus. The ejection port was lowered a little, but not beloved. And they were on sale for $349. So I pulled the trigger and had it shipped to my dealer for a total of $364. I picked it up on my way home from work today.

A few things I didn’t like was that the park. finish is darker then I like. They could have done a better job of matching the grips closer to the originals. And what’s with the 8 round mag with a plastic floorplate? This is their GI Model right?

Well, I dug into my parts and got an old standard 7 round mag and an original set of GI synthetic grips.

I’ll take it to work tomorrow and fire a few rounds through it. I think I’m going to be happy with it.

I like the new and improved retro look! The sights look a little taller but other than that it's good to go.

Always felt that with the exception of the slanted slide serrations my vintage Springfield Armory M1911A1 pretty much looked the part of being G.I. issue as well.

Good deal. I got a Tisas one a few months back, my first 1911. I was also turned off by the eight-round magazine, and ordered a seven-rounder from somewhere. It's a nice shooter, rock-solid and reliable with the ammo I've run through it (admittedly, all FMJ.)

There is certainly a market for sub-$400 "GI-type" 1911 imports.

I picked my Tisas up from the used counter in a LGS, for $299. Added the grips from Sarco

Those are some nice guns. There has always been something about a 1911A1 since that hot August day back in 1982 when I first fired one. It will always be my favorite handgun.

Have the holster and belt, and maybe the lanyard. Need to pickup a mag pouch.
Nice rig you have. What year is your holster?

I don't recall and I don't have it with me right now but I believe a 1980s production one.

OP if you can get ahold of some CMP GI 1911 magazines in the wrapper, they run excellent and are affordable to be sure and for certain are good mags.

I have some GI mags around here somewhere, just have to find them.
I tried some unmarked mags that I have and a few were very tight and would not go all the way in without getting stuck. The Colt mags and a few others worked fine. But all the mags fit in my Auto Ordnance 1911. The ATI seems to have a tighter mag well.

Very nice,i have had mine for about a year now,I think you will enjoy shooting it.

I brought it to work with me today and put two mags of ball ammo through it. The trigger is not that bad.
I field stripped it and gave it a good cleaning and I have to say I’m impressed with the fit and finish.

I dug out my old GI holster and belt.

You did better, pricewise, than I did with my AO--but I'm not trading mine for nothing.

That's all '43 marked. I have a khaki lanyard somewhere in my stuff.
There's a '45 dated OD belt, too.
And a '67 belt with Mitchell QR buckle.
And an '80s belt with Bianchi M10 holster.

I know they aren’t correct but those ACT mags are nice. Got a pair with an S&W and have never had a hiccup.

I’ve always been thoroughly impressed with the fit on ATI’s offerings and if I hadn’t been pinched so many times by GI 1911s I’m fairly certain I’d already own one.
