ATI Top-folding stock

I have a Remington M870 12 Gauge Wingmaster. As purchased, it came with a 26 inch barrel. I've used this shotgun equipped with an extra-full choke to hunt ground squirrels and other small game, but lately I have a hankering to turn it into something more compact, and possibly use it for home defense. I am mulling over putting an 18 inch IC barrel on it, a +2 magazine extension (I don't use it for waterfowel, so no capacity restrictions apply), and some new furniture on it. I like the idea of the ATI top-folding stock, but am concerned about its comfort and durability. I scoped it out at Midway and it appears that while the score averages out to about 3 out of 5 in the reviews, people either give it 5 stars or 1 star. So people either love it or hate it. I would like to know if it is worth the risk from anyone who has experience with this stock.

The Knoxx Copstock is more expensive and more highly rated, but it doesn't have the option of having a sidesaddle attached to it, and as a 4 to 6 round sidesaddle is an accessory I am considering, it would have to be compatible with a receiver mounted Sidesaddle.

I've never heard anything kind said about the ATI stock's quality or longevity. If you're set on a top-folder, look for a Knoxx Cop stock. I've got one on a an 870 and it's great.

Can you still mount a sidesaddle with the Knoxx Copstock?

no. the knoxx folder will hit the shells for sure and probably the holder itself.



i've been down this road myself. for one reason or another (cost, function, looks, quality or a combination of the four) there isn't a truly great folder on the market.


The best in MY personal experience has been the Butler Creek side folder, but the LOP on it seemed excessive even for me and I'm a bigger guy.

the ATI looks and seems the best, but the quality just isnt there. there is just too much negativity regarding it at this point that it needs to be a serious consideration if the product is to be used on a serious "lifesaver" tool.


im not a huge fan of the copstock. for a folder, it seems really "big", thats the best way i can put it. it is worlds better in terms of quality than the ATI though.

if you want a stock with a pistol grip, id go with a Speedfeed or Knoxx Specops and practice with it a lot. the knoxx specops is still collapsible to be pretty compact. otherwise I'd do a conventional stock or Hogue stock. the choate folder is quality but its uglier than charles barkley in a banana hammock.

I have an ATI top folder with shell holder on a mossberg 88 maverick. At first I was a little concerned about the durability of it but so far it has been good. The gun has had probably 100 rds of mag 3 inch buck and probably another 50 or 60 slugs fired thru it with this stock, along with almost a case of birdshot (250 rds). With it folded up it shoots just like a pistol grip and with it unfolded it kick like a mule. There is no room for any type of pad, if you put one on it you can't fold it completely (unless you can find one about 1/4 inch thick which won't do much either)

As for receiver shell holder, I don't really think the ATI would work either but the shell holder for it works fine and holds 5.

If you want something cheap get it, your shoulder will be worn out long before it is. If you want to spend the money on it get a Knoxx.

I've got one on my Mossberg 500. She works just fine. It's got a lifetime warranty on it, though I'd doubt you'd ever have to use it. Like the previous poster mentioned, the stock doesn't offer any padding or cushioning for shoulder comfort though. Though I haven't had a huge problem functioning it at all despite this.
