The K2 Firearms Training Center (303) 989-8600 near the corner of Wadsworth and Jewell in Lakewood has been open for a few weeks now, but I just had a chance to stop in today.

It was their grand opening and the Taurus/Para/Verona/PMC/Rossi/etc truck was there with lots of goodies.

Many years ago it was known as "Foothills Shooting Center" or "Foothills Shooting Range", something like that. I spoke with the owner, Jim, for a little while. Nice folks.

It has been completely redone, inside and out. Very nice facility. Head and shoulders above Silver Bullet/Firing Line/Shootist ranges. 12 pistol lanes and (I think) 6 rifle lanes. 25 yd for the pistol, 100 yd for rifle. I visited the pistol range. It was $12 and targets were $0.25 each.

I shot my BHP, Star BM, and CZ40B.

The next two lanes were being used by Alan Samuel of www.machineguntours.com

He had an impressive assortment. MP5, UMP 9, 2 M4's, AKS-74U, MAC 10, Uzi, G36, Glock 18c, & a suppressed P22.

I coughed up a little cash and lit off a full 30 round mag on the Glock 18c. The ported barrel/slide actually said Glock 17 but it had the select fire sear in back. The shoulder stock was attached. It was very easy to control, and holy moly the 1300 rpm makes the fun end quick. I also took the HK G36 for a spin. Yep, full auto .223 on the pistol range. It seemed fairly easy to keep on target as well. Love the little optical sight built in. They were both very sweet shooters.

I then went upstairs to check out the gun shop. They are currently running their grand opening sale and offering 15% off all gun sales. I don't know if this is the usual marketing ploy, but if they take away the 15% sale and don't drop their prices they probably won't be selling a lot of guns. Here's some examples: BHP Practical $799, USPc .45 w/NS $909, CZ PCR $499, Glock 36 $639, Ruger Vaquero (blue/case hardened) $499, S&W 1911 $840. :uhoh: Good selection though, and helpful people.

I was there today as well. They let me shoot the G36! Really sweet! My old boss Jim runs the store. He hooked me up with a range pass. That range is extremely nice!!

I gotta drop by there. How long will the Para truck be present? There are a few new Para's that I want to shoot.

That's cool. What did you do for him before? Did he own another gun shop?

I would guess that the truck was there for Sat/Sun only. And, I don't think they'd let you shoot anything on the truck as a sign in the truck said all the firing pins were removed, display models only. I kinda like the TAC 4, the Companion, and the CCW. They do offer gun rentals inside, but I didn't notice if they had any Para's. They did have plenty of Glocks to rent and 2 STI's. I'll probably rent the STI Eagle one day.

aw, SWEET!! I'll drop my and Monday, if they are open and get the whole story. Sounds sweet.

checkout my web site from my signature. I'm compiling a good list of Denver shops/ranges/resources etc. Any feedback and contributions of information or ideas would be welcome.

Address is 7860 West Jewell Ave. It's across the street from Wendy's.

I think the hours are 10 AM to 6 PM every day. May want to call to make sure though.

Don't know the hours yet but here's the address. It should be easy to find though. I called but there was nothing on the machine.

by analyzing the previous e-mail address I was able to extract the web page that I was unable to find while searching.

www.k2ftc.com

There's some information there.

My old boss is the assistant manager for K2. Great guy to work for and knows just about everything about guns. Here is his info. Give him a call and he will be more than glad to help you out!

Wardog I worked for him part time at Dave's Guns. It was a job I actually looked forward going to! Dropped a lot of cash on weapons if you know what I mean. Half their business was me and my paycheck

Yes, yes I know exactly what you mean. :D

I also asked about their memberships while I was there. $250/yr special at the time going up to $375/yr as their normal price. It saves you $4 a trip on the pistol range ($8 instead of $12). Gee, if you rush in right away to take advantage of the introductory rate you only have to go 62.5 times to break even, then you'll be saving $4 a trip. To be fair the membership includes other stuff that I'm not interested in. Discounts in the shop, invitations to some sort of gatherings, I don't remember what all. Lost interest after I heard the price.

I really don't care though. It's the best indoor range I've been to in CO, friendly people, and it's cheap to use as well.

I went yesterday afternoon. I'll second that.
Very clean and professional as well. I'd feel good about taking people there for their first time.
I managed to pay a bit more attention to the membership benefits :) Some of the other stuff was: members-only parties, members-only training sessions, discounts in the store, and members-only competitions.
None of which I'm interested in, either. And I live too far away to go once a week, let alone more than that. So, no membership for me. (Thats ok, I'll blew more on ammo while I was there than I did on the range fees, anyways. And that was with cheap online stuff.)

This sounds like a nice place to shoot. Too bad I am over thousand miles away. I always like to hear about a new range opening up.

I agree that the membership probably isn't worth the money, unless you go twice a week.

That said, the place is neat, clean, has good ventilation, computer controlled target runners, and a nifty computer/video training tool.

One more thing: Indoor rifle range!

The staff is professional and very helpful. I took an AR15 to the range with some reloads of unknown origin (bad idea), and the damn thing locked up tight. A staff member told another, who knows his ARs, and he pulled it down and cleared it, and told me I was running it way to dry. He then wiped it down, oiled it for me, and offered me some better ammo for a function test! I had some good ammo, so I went back to the line and it ran like a champ.

Now that's service.

I'm certainly going back, and my join up just to support them (and give me more excuses to go to the range - can't let it go to waste, right?).

yeah, I did the math on the membership and it came out to about 1.9 visits per week for it to be worth it.

I prefer memberships where the range time is free after you pay your membership.

Morgan nailed it: Indoor rifle range!

That's music to my ears. I've held off on a few rifle purchases just because I have nowhere to shoot the things.

John from Gunworks mentioned the place to me and gave it the big thumbs-up.

I like the folks at the Silver Bullet a lot (not the folks from years ago--the folks there now), and I'm a member, but this K2 place is near where I work and I can shoot rifles!

Good ventilation helps too. Is it really open only until 6:00?

The shop is open till 6, the range is open just until 5, if I recall the signs correctly.

Very strange. Most folks I know go shooting after work.

Two questions (sorry if the site has the info; I didn't see it): are they open on weekends, and do they rent? I would love to rent some different rifles, and I wouldn't mind shelling out the bucks for the unique (out here) opportunity.

Too bad I don't get to take extended lunches...

are they open on weekends
I think so. Don't hold me to it.

They rent a number of pistols, as mentioned previously, but I didn't see any rifles. I was mostly talking to the guy behind the counter, though, so a rifle in the case possibly could've slipped my attention.

Their rental costs are high enough to cover a rifle, though. :scrutiny:
