I've been looking at some of the online auctions, just to see if there are any gems out there. I've been really surprised by the number of pistols I've seen that are being offered with no magazine. There are quite a few, some older guns, some newer, all used.
How do so many pistols get separated from their mags? Are these out of police auctions, imports that sold them separately, is there a magazine monster stealing all the mags for himself? I see an auction that looks like a good price, then find out I'm going to have to buy a mag for it. It's not such a bargain after all.

I don’t know which specific guns you’re looking at, but a lot of them have magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. With the number of states and cities that have limited magazine capacity, a lot of sellers probably don’t want the hassle or risk of selling/shipping a gun with a high cap mag to someone who can’t legally receive it and then dealing with returns and/or repercussions.

I was browsing online auctions too, and was seeing a lot of guns from one particular seller without magazines.
A few sold for really good prices, but I didn't have the funds to pursue. I did manage to get a forged ar-15 receiver for $50 shipped though, so I wasn't too sad.
I find some real gems at auction sometimes

I've found that adding magazines and other accessories (holsters, mag loaders, additional grips, etc...)to a gun doesn't really add much to the ultimate sale price. I wonder if these guys figured out that you ultimately sell the gun for a little less without the mags, but that you can sell the mags individually for more and make up the difference.
(ie. instead of selling the gun for $500, you sell it for $475 but then sell the three magazines separately for $50 and end up with a total income of $525 instead of just $500).

Just a thought.

Thats my thinking too. Also people tend to just see the make model and price when choosing which posting to click on so it has the added benefit of being able to list the gun at a lower price than the competition.
