Aussie .308 Ammo...how is it?

The Aussie stuff I have is in the bandoliers...cycles my FAL without a hiccup and gives reasonable groups in a bolt gun (this stuff IS mil-surp....)

hopefully you won't get raped on the price...

also, check to see if its boxer or berdan...the bandoliers are berdan, but you might get lucky and have some boxer stuff...

The Australian F4 cartridge is excellent. The only downsides are that 1) it is Berdan primed and 2) that it is now unavailable.

I'd be happy with either. I think the Aussie is considered slightly better for some reason, and will get a higher price today due to the rarity.

I've shot a few k myself and it's been GTG in my M1A and LTR.

In the LTR, I get about 1-3/4 MOA accuracy with the F-4, which isn't bad for MilSurp. The same gun shoots FGMM 175s into 3/4 MOA.

I seem to recall Zak Smith reporting that he got something like MOA performance out of the Aussie ammo out at 700 yards.

It shoots 1 1/2-2 " groups @ 100 yds in my 308 Tanker Garand which is about as good as I can do with other good ammo.

I have witnessed the AUS F4 surplus shoot pretty good in a variety of bolt guns and accurate semi-autos. From several bolt guns, it'll shoot "most" rounds into MOA, but does throw more out of the group than you'd expect from match ammunition.

Of course it is not match ammo. It's service ammo. It shoots good, but lets have realistic expectations. If your surplus service ammo does better than 2MOA, you're doing pretty good.

I didn't say it was match ammunition, but wanted to characterize its performance. From many good bolt guns, it can shoot most rounds into MOA at close ranges, however, it will throw rounds out of the group more often than actual match ammo.
