I picked up a Japanese made auto 5 mag 12 at a good price. The wood is rough and needs replacing. I noticed that the large bolt that holds the stock in place is stripped. Any thoughts on how to repair? I was told I could get an oversized bolt. It is not going to be a show gun or a safe queen. I want a blind gun to duck hunt with. The gun came with a 30” full and it has been drill and tapped to accept chokes
Any advice appreciated.

Is just the bolt stripped, or are the threads in the tang stripped also? If it's just the bolt, replace it, they're not expensive. If just the tang, try running a tapered tap through it and see if you can recover enough thread. If both, try retapping the tang as above with a new bolt, and if still not enough grab, go one size up with a new bolt and retap the hole to that.

The Browning A-4 butt stock is secured to the receiver tang with a bolt that often is very tightly installed especially for the Japanese models for some reason. The threads of the fastener are a long way from the head of the fastener via a wooden tunnel in the stock.
As mentioned above , is it the slotted head or the threads that are "stripped"? Photo would be helpful to advise on extraction methods. It can get ugly quick. I authored a comprehensive technical Manual on the A-5.
