Auto 5, Savage 745 problem

I have a Revelation 400 I am trying to refurbish a Revelation 400. (It' built on the Browning auto 5 and Savage 745 model). All metal and stock work is done and put back together.
Now I load the tube with shell, pull the bolt back, release and the shell does not feed out of the tube.
There is a small metal piece that holds the shell in. What is the name of this piece and does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

Sounds like the "Shell Stop" check with Numrick Parts they may have a diagram that shows it and parts needed

Its a gun my brother gave to me. He says it shot good before I took it apart. I never shot it but I'm sure its something I have broken, or damaged as I did not break it down to that level.

Well about all I can offer from this distance is take it apart again and look for any obvious missing or misplaced parts, springs off or mis-aligned & binding, etc..

Did you have to force anything to put it back together?
(That's always a bad sign right there!)

Check part # 20 (Shell Latch) and part #21, (Shell Latch Spring).
See if it is there, and not squished.

Shell Stop

If its like the Auto 5, you may have put the magazine cut off in backwards (it can assemble both ways), but I'd first check the shell stop and the coil spring. Did it have those vertical screws in the edge of the receiver, or those pesky roll pins? They may not have gone back in all the way and the shell stop is binding.

Details

You must remember that recoiling barrel semi guns need the barrel to stroke to feed shells from the magazine.
These don't work like 1100's, etc.
Feed the first shell into the chamber, close the bolt (with the safety already on), invert the gun, finish by loading the magazine.
You may also have other problems, but even if all of the parts are perfect, you'll never get that gun to feed a shell from the tube by just pulling back the bolt.

kirby, every M11 I have owned would chamber a round from the magazine by operating the bolt.

Same here.

M-11's and A-5 Brownings feed any way you want them to feed. The barrel doesn't have to recoil except to make them operate semi-automatically.

Mines setting empty with four rounds in the tube right now.
All I have to do to load it is pull the bolt handle back and let it go.

PS: The Winchester Model 11 is the only long-recoil shotgun I can think of that loaded by pulling the barrel back.

It doesn't have a bolt handle though.

Hey thanks for the advice. Cycling the barrel by hand solved the problem. I don't know why or how but kirbythegunsmith solved this one. I have been around brownings all my life and did not know this trick.

Savage 745

I was just given a Savage Model 745, 12-gauge. Don't have much experience with shotguns, auto in particular. How do I use it, when I pull the action back it stays, is that normal? I assume it will take 3 shells, 2-3/4, I know that. How about slugs? What is the shotgun like? Any help would be great.

It is normal for the bolt to lock back if there is no shell in the magazine. I don't know if the Savage had a three shot version or not, your magazine may be plugged back to two shells because of hunting regulations. Do a search for friction ring settings, maybe for the Rem 11. It is important for proper operation to have them set correctly. You can get replacement parts from Numrich.
