Took my wife to the range and let her shoot my only pistol... a Glock 19. Now she wants one too! Told her that maybe she'd find a different pistol she liked better. Any suggestions in this price range? Please not the XD... slide is too hard to comfortably pull back for her. Main thing is Glock 19 size, mag capacity, and "female" friendly operation. Suggestions? Sig SP2022?

My suggestion would be take her to a good range that has a varied selection of handguns that you can rent for her to shoot. That is the only way she's gonna get the true feeling for the pistol. She might think she likes something the way that it looks, until she shoots it. Only real way for her to find out what she likes. Congrats on having a good wife!

What are you talking about! You know what you have to do.

Give her yours or buy her one...seems simple to me!:D

how about a g19? if she likes it, why not?

i don't think there's such a thing as "female friendly operation." every woman has a different hand size, shape, strength, comfort level, etc. i am capable of operating any handgun. that being said, my personal hand size prevents me from reaching some safeties and mag releases without changing my grip. due to my personal lack of arm strength, there are a few pocket pistols that have given me problems with racking the slide (beretta tomcat :barf: ). of course there are some pistols i prefer over others, just as my husband has some he prefers over others. but it's a completely personal choice; i don't think you can make that decision based on gender.

you can take her to a range that rents guns or invite buddies and their pistol collections to the range with you. she can try everything she can get her hands on. hand comfort alone is not everything, so i would try before i buy. i've learned that lesson now - finally.

another consideration is what the gun is for: is this solely a range gun? concealed carry? competition (and which one)? home defense?

if she has other questions about what action type she prefers (or explanations of those), what weight certain guns are, others' experiences, how/where to carry, etc., this is a good place for her to ask. there are also other websites that cater to women and firearms.

ultimately, though, if she already likes the g19, and it suits her purposes, she may just want to with that (i have one that i adore - it's my new favorite:p ). and i'm sure whatever gun she goes with, it won't be her last (they're addicitive like shoes!).

:)

Give her your Glock.

If you want something else get it, if not then get yourself a new Glock.

If you're still not convinced, and live near Knoxville TN, come on over to Coal Creek Armory and let her check out our HUGE selection of rental pistols.

Ladies shoot for FREE on Tuesday! And.........men who come with a lady shoot for half off!

Lot's of good firearms out there; with the G-19 being rated near the top~!:)
But, you will also want her to "test drive" many different makes and models;
much like you would a new or used vechile. My suggestion is to try and find
a range that has rental guns; let her rent and shoot as many as possible,
and see what fits her best. Handguns from one manufactuer to the other
are completely different; and the various models may not suit every hand?
Its a matter of the old "trial and error" theory; but I just don't know of any
dealer that will let you "try before you buy".

2 votes for the Range with a good selection that rents....

You might find something really special that you haven't yet considered :D

that's what renting and borrowing friends' guns and chatting with others at the range is for! to avoid buying a gun that you're not going to be that impressed with later, make every attempt to try a gun before you buy it. it will save you money and heartache in the long run.

sounds like a good excuese to buy yourself a new gun! giv her the glock and get you something else, and if you don't want something else buy you another 19.

If she digs the G19, give it to her. If you want some other suggestions, the Taurus 24/7 Pro is nice (much nicer grip, IMHO, than the Glock) or the CZ75 Compact.

Go buy yourself another G19

She already told you your answer. My only other suggestion was the XD with has already been eliminated. Thus, the answer is obvious.

My husband tried to get a Taurus PT111 first, I could not pull the trigger, unless I jerked it back, which was of course, utterly useless.

I ended right back at the Glock that I told him to get me to begin with.

Besides, you both having the same pistol if good for familiarization, mag sharing in a SHTF scenario, spare parts can be kept the same. Come on man, you already know the answer.

Shouldn't be too tough to find a pre-owned G19...maybe a 2 tone ;) IMO, the G19 is the nicest pistol in the Glock line up

Get her one quick and keep her interested. It will do nothing but add to your collection. My wife has added some nice pieces to my:uhoh: (our) collection. Give her yours and that gives you a reason for a new one, or take her to a shop and find one that is comfortable. This is the kind of hobby that helps when both of you enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies! Gonna try the range and rentals next weekend. Stopped at the store today and she also liked the full sized Glocks as well. We'll see what happens when we try a few more out at the range.

I'll be the voice of dissention....

Just because she likes the Glock, doesn't mean she likes it the best. Get her out and let her try some other models.

Have you talked about the different actions with her? Does she want a safety? A decocker? What about second-strike capability (i.e., true DA/SA)?

I'd recommend you consider some of the models that have interchangeable backstraps that allow you to adjust the grip for your hand size. The Walther P99, Beretta PX4 Storm and S&W M&P all offer that feature -- along with 16 or 17+1 capacity. My wife (5'2") loves my PX4 Storm with the small backstrap installed.

In the end, she'll tell yuo what she likes the best!

My wife loves the G19...she went with a G26, which is smaller, for CCW reasons, but if it weren't for that she'd have a 19 instead. A Glock is an excellent choice, and it fits her small hands well.

I'd say that if your wife likes the G19, get her a G19! She just needs to be very careful about the Four Rules (especially finger off the trigger unless you're about to shoot), and if the gun is kept for defensive purposes, either keep it chamber-empty, or make sure it's secured/carried in a way that will keep the trigger from being pulled. My wife has a nice Gould & Goodrich paddle holster for around the house, and a variety of carry options for out and about.

My wife had a set of Trijicons installed on her G26 as soon as she bought it, but other than that the gun is stock.

My answer

How does one understand the way a woman thinks?

Here's what my wife felt comfortable with, and I must admit it is a Female friendly shooter...

If she shoots the Glock 19 well get her Glock 19.

I really don't understand why you are trying to move her to another platform.
