Politicians (some) keep spouting that gun owners are fewer as time goes on. This would indicate that the average age of gunowners is going up. I am curious as to the average age of people on this board. I know there are a lot of old ones and a lot of young ones as well. But what are the percentages?

This kind of poll has been done before, you can probably find it if you search. I think doing an internet poll skews results, though, as younger people are more apt to be online than older ones. IMO anyway. I'm 22 by the way. Started shooting at 11 and became a regular shooter at 18.

Politicians especially anti ones, will spout whichever numbers they think will either scare people into listening to them to vote for them, or show some kind of impact because of thier stance and thusly make people vote for them.

I got my 1st gun at 21 the same day I got my CCW. But I had gone skeet shooting with friends since I was 17. I will raise my kids in the future to be pro 2A, I turned my girlfriend from someone afraid of guns into someone who asks me when we can get some more range time. I have a dozen friends who are my age who are pro 2A and both of my younger brothers go to the range with me and are will apply for thier CCW when they hit 21.

I'm 24 by the way. And I live in a liberal state, Connecticut.

I am 22. Most all of my friends are between 19 and 24. All are shooters/gun owners. Guess I'm just lucky to have those kinds of friends. :D

im 16 now i got my first gun at 14 with my own money i got into shooting after begging my mother for about 10 years.

Old guys are more likely to be out shooting on weekdays. When I shoot I rarely see any young pups under 50.

I'm 67, but I have taught my friend's two boys to shoot and will be teaching his other boy and girl to shoot.
So there are four shooters to replace me. ;)

Do your part, teach some kids to shoot. :)

I'll be 16 in September. I got my first gun just this year. My bestfriend's grandfather passed on, and an old Mossberg 195K-A bolt action shotgun was found in the closet in his room. No one really knew what to do with it, so they gave it to my dad. It was in really bad condition...The stock was bone dry, rust all over. I kept bugging my dad about cleaning it, and he never got around to it, so I took the project into my own hands. I got it cleaned up and got it into a pretty good condition, and upon my dad seeing what I had done to it, he picked it up, handed it to me, and said "It's yours now". And that's the story of my first gun.

You can see it here.

I just turned the big 30...

My guess would be that this poll will skew younger than the real numbers based on the premise that the internet is less popular and in less wide use with the silverbacks.

I'm eighteen, and I had my first taste of shooting at 14; my dad bought me a Mini-14 when I was 15, and I've been shooting ever since (in the time intervening, we've also acquired a couple of shotguns, and we shoot trap pretty regularly)

Oldnamvet,
intersting poll however you might find the resluts skewed because, very generally speaking, more younger people than older people use the internet.

Let's see.... I'm 42, and not getting any younger.
I started shooting when I was about 7. ( Actually, I had a BB gun when I was 5, if that counts. )
And I've taught my wives (yes, wives. I've had 3 of 'em. ) to shoot, along with at least a few other people.

I used to be younger then I am now.

I had guns then also, but not so many.

I bought my first gun at age 15 with money earned cutting grass and odd jobs but had been hunting with my Dad using his old Stevens single shot .22 since I was 11 and a Daisy pump BB gun before that. I've been hunting and shooting for 56 yrs. There always seem to be more younger men(boys?,pups?) at the range than old fogies like me and I'm glad to see them out there. Many of the older ones are grouchy old farts anyway. I Like many others don't hunt much now because of physical problems but hope the new ones keep the traditions of hunting and shooting alive and well. ;)

You know you're old when you're too old to do it anymore, but your memory is so bad you thought you did.
