Today I headed out to the skeet range with some shooting cronies. I had two guns to try out that I'd tweaked a bit. I cut the stock and added a recoil pad to my 1100 12ga, and I put a temporary homemade shim in between the stock and the receiver on my 28ga BPS.
First round was with my 1100. I stopped shooting this gun a lot once I got my 12ga SKB, but I always liked the 1100. First round I popped out a 24, with a miss on high 1 on doubles on station 1. Doh! That gun swings easier than I remember and I enjoyed shooting it.
With my 28ga BPS I discovered during mounting practices in my house that I see way too much rib when I mount the gun in a comfortable manner. So, I made a small shim to reduce the comb height by just a tiny amount and *BAM*, after mounting with my eyes closed I see a perfect sight picture, albeit with a little bit of cant. So, second round of skeet and I'm shooting the 28 with my most open choke (IC), and next thing I know I'm wrapping up the doubles on six without any problems (I sometimes mentally make this station harder than it is). Seven wrapped up no problem and I'm going onto 8 with three shells in my pouch. Huh, did I put an extra in there or have I really not missed any? 8 was a breeze and I stepped off the station with a huge grin on my face. This gun is so smooth that I don't even notice having to pump it, quite easy.
Next round I floundered on station 1 and my buddies pointed out that I shot a "28 straight". I went on to shoot a 23 with it and then a 22 with my 12ga during the "money" round where we bet $2 apiece and winner takes all.

Great day, I'd like to see more like it in 2007!

One of the guys today is just getting into shotguns, and was asking me at lunch about my 1100. I'm a big 1100 fan and told him all about it, I had to try and keep from getting a big head when he said, "I'd like you to help me with my shooting, you really look like you know what you're doing!"

Hahaha, doesn't get much better than that!

Sure did! I was very pleased. I have to admit I didn't come up with that idea all by myself, I had help by all the 101s from THR and TFL!
