proud to be in AZ
The AZ Senate already sent a memorial to the US Congress on the onorous RealID act, now see this "strike everything" bill that passed the Committee of the Whole, and is headed down the track at full speed!\

AN ACT

amending title 28, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 28-336; relating to the REAL ID Act of 2005.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 28, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 28-336, to read:

START_STATUTE28-336. REAL ID act; implementation prohibited

This state shall not participate in the implementation of the REAL ID act of 2005 (P.L. 109-13, Division B; 119 Stat. 231). The department shall not implement the REAL ID act of 2005 and shall report to the governor and the legislature any attempt by agencies or agents of the United States DEPARTMENT of homeland security to secure the implementation of the REAL ID act of 2005 through the operations of the United States department of homeland security.

Too bad I'm moving to WA. Methinks Queen Christine would veto such a bill before it even had finished coming out of the printer.

GO ARIZONA!!! Hopefully the states can fully crush Real ID before it can begin to be implemented...

kudos to AZ. the realID is no different than an 'assault weapon' ban. weapons bans are proposed in the name of reducing crime, and the realID act is proposed in the name of national security. both do nothing but completely disregard the basic liberties of american citizens, and the politicians that support them know this.

Certainly, but then it is unlikely she'll be governor after the 2008 elections, and there's a very good chance we'll get Republican Dino Rossi - whom the majority of people in this Democrat state believe won in 2004.

CR

Well, they'll be two more votes for Rossi (or at least not for Gregoir - I don't know enough about Rossi to say for certain whether I'd vote for him or not) in the state of WA by then.
