lacoochie, SC has to perform a craniorectal extraction first. Getting rid of the "no nonresident" crap would help, as would adding a few more states to the list--as a Washingtonian, if I go to AZ, I could carry on an FL permit, but South Carolina might as well be Downtown Daleygrad for all my ability to carry...

We're getting a new SLED chief - I'm hoping he'll do some good as far as CWPs are concerned. Outgoing Chief Stewart didn't really like the CWP program and instructed his staff to take the full 90 days to issue the permits even though it only takes a few weeks.

There is a bill in the senate right now that, if passed, would make SC a recognition state instead of a reciprocity state. The bill passed the house and passed out of the senate committee on the judiciary last year, and currently awaits second reading in the full senate.

South Carolinians, call your senator!

H. 3212 A BILL TO AMEND SECTION 23-31-215, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF CONCEALABLE WEAPONS PERMITS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT VALID OUT-OF-STATE PERMITS TO CARRY CONCEALABLE WEAPONS HELD BY A RESIDENT OF ANOTHER STATE MUST BE HONORED BY THIS STATE AND TO DELETE THE PROVISION THAT THIS STATE WILL ONLY HONOR OUT-OF-STATE PERMITS ISSUED BY A STATE WITH WHICH SOUTH CAROLINA HAS RECIPROCITY.

Real Gun:

AZ signed with both PA and SC. SC and PA did not sign any agreement. Look at the original post it does not say that SC and PA signed an agreement. AZ official site listed as honoring SC. SC Official Site list AZ as a state they will honor and PA Official Site List AZ as state they will honor. In Fact AZ honors all other state permits.

AZ will recognize my Maine permit , but Maine won't recognize AZ's :(
They say it's because "this state's laws are less strict than Maine's"

On the upside (in a way) Maine IS looking at reciprocity agreements with Alabama,Delaware,Kansas,Louisiana,North Dakota , Pennsylvania,South Dakota, and Wyoming.

it is kind of crappy that Maine won't recognize permits from ANY state without an agreement , but at least we are heading in the right direction .As of now we recognize exactly zero . :cuss:
