I was checking These Babys out .........What do ya Think????
Compact Desert eagle .40 cal????

I wasn't happy at all with mine. Repeatedly failed to go into battery. Loved the platform, hated the performance.

I have shot one a while back and was underwhelmed. I have not heard any good things about their performance, fit or finish in general. I think CZ gives you more gun if you are looking for an accurate $400 shooter in 9mm or .40SW.

My son has one...

paid full price ($500)! Youthful exuberance. The slide stop was walking out, IMI repaired and turned around in less than a week.
Chambered in .40, great round. Good pistol, but needs to be less than $400 IMO.

I know 4 guys that have the 9mm version & love the pistol. I have ZERO experience w/ it so I can't say one way or the other.

Mine (in .40S&W) is safe from being sold off, at least for now, but it is not taken to the range frequently. I bought it used for $350. I found it to be accurate, and a good gun to buy used. It looks like it would be plenty durable. The slimness of the grip will appeal to a ot of folks.

I tried it in .45 ACP

A buddy bought one. Ran flawlessly, easy to use even for this lefty. Only wrinkle is reassembly: a spring-within-spring design recoil spring can be a pain if you aren't careful. Liked it overall though.

I purchased on of polymer framed compacts in .40 S & W right after the last SHOT show in Orlando because they looked and felt good at their booth. First one that I received could not shoot a pattern less than 8 inches at 7 yards. It didn't matter what ammo I tried, it shot more like a shotgun then a pistol. Sent this one back to them. The second one I received, different serial number, shoots a lot better, 2 1/2 to 3 inches at 7 yards. I going to replace the factory sights with with Heine Slant 8s or Xpress Sights Big Dot Tritiums and try several more brands of ammo. This should bring the groups down some. Atleast it has on other brands of pistols I own. I just have to keep in mind that this is not a target pistol but is built more for self defense where a larger shot group is not considered as a critical failure.

The things I do not like about the pistol is there is no accessories rail or mounting system, the safety is on the rear of the slide which makes for rather unusal first round loading and the center of gravity seems to be a bit too far on the slide.

The things that I like are the so far flawless operation (no FTEs or FTFs), the way the grip fits my hand and the reduced recoil. Over all a fairly nice pistol but I am not convinced to use it as my ccw piece yet.

I have a full-size in 9mm. initially it had failure to fire problems. The firing pin channel had a bunch of grit in it from the factory. (guessing metal shavings or some remnant of the coating process).

After getting the crap out, breaking it in (i'd guess about 500 rounds, but wasn't keeping close track), and making sure to use some more durable lubricant in the slide rails, it's been pretty nice.

And I love the ergonomics of it.

Every 9mm BE I have tried has been more than acceptably accurate at self-defense ranges. (2" to 4" ragged hole from 21-50 feet. and likely that's my limitation, not the guns.)

The IMI Baby Eagle and CCW

One thing to remember is that the design was never considered for CCW as it is was made for the Isreali Defence Force as a military sidearm on a web belt holster...............thus making it all steel and heavy.

The newer poly Baby Eagles are an modification to the first all steel design so the ballance might be a bit goofy.

I prefer the steel sub compact 9mm and .40 as they are both the same demenions and have for me the best ballance.........not having all that slide&barrel weight out foward. I also preffer the grip on the sub compacts as it does not have the 'bulge' down toward the heel that the full sized ones have.

There is an easily fixable problem with the slide release on some Baby Eagles. It is prone to engage while firing but some dremel work and a bit of polishing can fix it right up in a jiffy. There was a post here about six months ago or so from an unhappy NIB Baby Eagle owner where I went over the easy 'fix'

The Jrehico does have the saftey mounted to the frame but after having gotten used to the slide mounted one on the Baby Eagle line I found the frame mounted one a bit odd as it got in the way of the slide release.

FWIW- Kieth's guns in Gresham Oregon has the entire IMI Baby Eagle line for $299.00 NIB last time I was in. All calibers, sizes and poly/steel frames.
