Hey people how are you guys doing...I have a question see if anyone is or has gone through the same problem..Back on early June I ordered a Smith & Wesson 1911, E Series, and its mid August and my FFL tells me there STILL on back order, Jesus Christ it's been 2 months..I mean really?, is this everywhere? or just in New York City!!...PS sorry the title should have been Back ORDERS not oders my bad

Depending on the gun and the shop, I've seen certain guns backordered for 6 months or more. It could be the manufacturer, or it could be your shop (or their distributor). If the shop is small, or has had issues in the past that the distributor has had to get involved in, they won't get first shot at whatever inventory comes up. For some smaller shops, that means loooong wait times. While it's frustrating, it definitely happens. Best thing to do is forget about it until it comes in, or look for what you want somewhere else.

Even Kimber makes you wait a few months, and they spit out 50,000 1911's every year. Perfectly normal to wait when ordering a 1911.

Semi-custom 1911's can take more than a year to get.

But why wait for a S&W? Deos noone have a similar Colt/Kimber in stock? S&W fan?

Its the 100th anniversary- might be driving demand- I have had to do some minor hassling with my distributors but managed to get in a few Colts

Kimbers are much harder to get- they have a strange distribution network

I'm waiting on a Springfield Loaded Parkerized, seems to be unavailable at any of my dealer's distributors at the moment. Hopefully soon. :)

My LGS has any 1911 you'd ever want in stock......as long as it's a Kimber, Taurus or a Springfield. Colts and the S&W E-Series guns are virtually non-existent. Glad I'm not lookin' for one.

Wait time for a Kimber in my area is approximately 7 to 8 months if ordered from a dealer.

I'm at about 6 weeks now on a Ruger SR1911 that I paid for in full to get a second spot on their list. What bugs me is that other dealers have received several in but this dealer apparently hasn't received 2 in those 6 weeks. I'm wondering here.

My buddy finally gave up on waiting for his Springfield that he ordered 7 months ago. Demand for 1911's is through the roof this year so everyone is backed up. Last time he checked in, before he gave up, Springfield was making the model he wanted at the time, they switched production over to other models.

Waiting game ...

Yes .....sometimes the things you want the most (we think) are the hardest to get. I am currently waiting for a Kimber Ultra Raptor II .... :uhoh: No BIG hurry though, as I have other pistols to keep me occupied .... ;)

The Ed Brown Special Forces Carry that I ordered last year took just over five weeks to receive. The Ed Brown Special Forces that I ordered this year took just over 16 weeks!! The Special Forces Rail that I ordered three weeks ago probably won't be here until late November or early December. I've added some custom features on the Rail version so it might take longer than that. On the other hand, it took my LGS three days to bring in a NIB Dan Wesson Valor and V-Bob a few months ago ... go figure!!

@Zerodefect not really I would probably prefer a colt or kimber, but the FFL seams to "specialize" in SW so i figuered it would be a good idea to get a SW being that they would get it right away...I WAS WRONG!! lol

I spoke with the people at Ruger yesterday and they said that they are still trying to catch up on SR orders. As a side note, I asked about a commander size model coming out. She couldn't give any specifics but did say they are being asked that question a lot.

S&W has a lot of models they are behind on right now. I have been waiting at least two months for a few items. Last I talked to one of my distributors, they had backorders for over 3,000 pieces on a particular M&P, similar for the e-series, and BG380, so it may be awhile.

Be happy you aren't in need of a full custom 1911. I had a look round, at a few top smiths, like Ted Yost, and last time I did the wait was over or at least round three years! Sure they had a few in stock, but they were up in the $5000.00~ $6500.00 range. Have you had a look at Gunborker.com for them?
