Not the IDPA "semi-division", but an approach to competing where you have a primary comp' piece and a back-up piece just in case.
I saw a guy have his front sight fall of his pistol in an IDPA match. Two weeks later, a pin busted in what had been my primary IDPA pistol (fortunately this was during practice). After that, I began "packing a 2nd" in my range bag (based on the IDPA rules regarding substitution of similar type and caliber) just in case.
I was wondering if others do this, or is it more common to "role the dice" and expect that a malfunction = DNF?
Thanks in advance,
