thanks fellas.

while i am still not "unarmed" i am still waiting for the .40 S&W to come back.

alot of responses here have prompted another gun purchase much to the dismay of my pocket book an the addition to my local gun shops payroll

No I don't have a BUG because if it did then my flashlight, knife, magazines, pens, and key's would all demand back up in accordance with the "Fair Representation Act" of 1999.

I trust my CCW weapon 100% I just don't need a BUG.

JMHO
YMMV

I have thought about this every time I read a question about 'primary' and 'backup' personal defense firearms: How on Earth did I survive the 37 years from the time I could legally own a handgun 'til I could legally carry one?

Personally, I get confused when carrying more than one.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Money's tight right now,so I'm waiting to get another snubbie for a seconary carry.....I COULD use my Glock17 if my SP101 were out of commision......I plan to send my SP to my gunsmith for a "de-burring" job(or whtaever you call it when they make everything smooth like). So I'll probably be carrying the G17 then.....
If money were not an object I'd have 2 SP's and a Glcok 26 as ccw.

Backup

When I can carry I usually carry a Steyr S40. I also own a M40, and M9 so they could be used an and alternative carry gun if need be. Luckily they fit in my holster very nicely.

When I find a gun I like, I like to have two. That way, if one goes bad or something happens to it, I still have the spare. Since I like mainly older guns that are usually out of production I think it's especially important to have a spare since I won't be able to just bop down to the local shop and pick up one NIB.

I do cheat a little and don't require that the guns be EXACTLY identical. I'll let myself set them up a little differently or have both the fixed sight and adjustable sight variations of a revolver, for instance, but the controls will be the same and the gear, mags, etc will interchange.

Trebor..good point...even when I change from my Glock to my Taurus for IDPA,I'm constantly forgetting to take the safety off on the Tuarus(that I do C&L)......I think it's important to have the same "Manual of arms" for your carry..when the pressure's on the most familiar the better...IMO

Depending on dress, time of year, weather, phase of the moon, etc. I carry either:

Kimber .45
Ruger GP 100 .357
S&W 6906 9mm

So if one is in the shop, etc. then one of the others becomes my primary.

Reading these posts makes me feel really out of place. I have less firearms then some of you have handguns...

Still, I am looking at a good snubbie to carry in lighter weather and when the Walther p99 is a little hard to conceal.

S&W 99 compact is always an option till the Walther P-99 compact comes out in Fall of 04

People are obviously free to carry whatever they want, but a lot of it seems like, um, overkill. If you're really in a situation where you need 2 1911's with extra mags for each etc etc you've clearly done something wrong.
My primary currently is a Smith 329. Most close up encounters, AFAIK, involve one, maybe two shots. So I'd like to make them count. My only backup is a Colt 1908(?) in .25acp that I wear in my left jacket pocket In case someone pins my right arm and takes my gun. I never liked the Kel-tec and sold mine.
