Dare i say it i think something needs to be done firearm wise to keep people with severe mental health issues from owning a firearm. I work part time for a large hospital system and we train every 3 months for active shooter drills doing scenarios with the marker guns and 100-150rds on the range every 3 months. Well yesterday i walk in to a building surrounded by local PD, our guys, and I’m told a 20-30yo came in and said i need to speak to someone about mental health and proceeds to say that he has a shotgun in his car and is going to kill everyone in the ER along with himself. He was immediately detained by the previous shift to me and a pump shotgun was found along with multiple boxes of ammo hidden under a blanket in his car. I don’t judge people but you could look at the way he acted and talk to this guy and immediately tell something wasn’t right. When he got to the ER he immediately asked for an ER secretary by name, whome has never seen this guy before. Rumor is that it belongs to someone else. I see a lot of people dealing with mental health in both of my jobs and when asked if they have firearms or access to them its 95% a yes. I’ve always been against any stricter gun laws but thinking last night how he could have taken a lot of people out really got me thinking change is needed both in the medical world for mental health and firearms.
