Bad Range Day

I had so much problems with my Colt Defender with Colt factory mag. Nothing would work smoothly or reliably. UNTIL, I tried these Wilson 920 mags! These mag ate everything I thought at it (except oversize .452 coated). I bought 8 mags and called it a win.

Mine didn't care what mags, ammo, moon phase or color shirt I wore. It wouldn't work after 2 gun smith visits and a trip back to Colt. Got traded back to the shop it came from.
want nothing to do with the "money industry."
Bad range trips are lousy. Bad road trips...when the "system is down" and you have zero access to funds 5 hours from home... is a pretty helpless feeling. While cash may be worth less and less, a plastic card that won't read or is linked to a broken system is worthless.

I hope I didn’t buy your Colt Defender… Was it a Stainless with snake grip screws?

Lol, no. It's owned locally. After another trip back to Colt, it received a new barrel, pin&link, and slide. Guy that ended up with it knew the history and said it's done well for him. I just lost patience and interest.

Oooh that’s good!

Well, normally being at the range beats not being at the range.
Some days the cards are just stacked against you.
Was packed up and heading out to the range and had a tire blow out. Had to move all the range stuff to the front seat to be able to get to tire tools & jack. By the time the (iffy) spare was on, there was just enough time to run back into town and get a couple of new tires, so range day was right out. Sigh.

I've had clueless knobbos cut short my day at the range a time or two, too. But, I got to put some rounds down range before that. So, a "win" just with an asterisk.

My two latest range trips were great. The one before these I had a muzzle-braked AR being shot next to me send me packing for home early. (Ears rang for two days after that even with plugs and muffs.)

My biggest oops with range trips involve bringing the wrong glasses. I have a set designed for shooting that make shooting without them harder.

Stay safe.

Leave the dog at home. No more mess to clean up-----of any kind. The noise is probably hard on his hearing anyway as I have never seen hearing protection for dogs.

I have left the range a couple of times over idiots. Most of my trips are made very early in the morning during weekdays and that has eliminated the idiot crowd during my time spent there. It also eliminates a crowd. Not many people seem to want to be there until 9 or 9:30 and that gives me about 3 hours all by myself or only a couple of early riser to deal with. I know most of those and they are safe and unannoying. Yes, I have forgotten things that spoiled my day. Now in my dotage I make a list and so far have remembered to check it since beginning to do so. When I start forgetting the list it might be time to hang up my guns but that day isn't here yet.

used to run into all kinds of sketchy yahoos at the free DNR range
since joining the private range that I use, just a whole bunch of pleasant freedom loving Americans

Wasn't it Forrest Gump who coined the serm. "____ " Happens? Or was that just the movie.. :neener:

Have had a number of bad days at the range over the years.. Last one was then I left my steel targets at the range and they grew legs.. :fire:

Was at a pistol range a couple weeks ago with my relatively new steel gongs and 1" steel conduit target holder. I and my shooting buddy were doing fine, another group shows up and starts banging away AT MY STEEL. Not bad, I guess, until the range went cold and I went to pick up my targets and saw all the holes in the conduit crossbar and legs on their side of the target stand.....Oh, they thought it belonged to the range.....so I guess that's an excuse for shooting AT the stand itself.....sheesh.... They were doing the rapid depart when I was making my way back to the benches....no opportunity for discussion. Good thing conduit is relatively inexpensive.
