couple of sunday's ago i went to the range...wanted to break in my stampede (hadn't shot it yet) -- set up in front of the metal pistol gallery....about 15 feet to my right, are the paper target frames....the line was hot, and i started loading the stampede...had about 3 rounds in the cylinder, when i noticed out of the corner of my eye, a person walking down range! :what:

i put my pistol down as the guy next to him started screaming "CEASE FIRE!! CEASE FIRE!!" -- guy walked downrange while the range was HOT to replace targets....

the RO gave him quite an azz chewing, but didn't kick him out. it was a weekend, the range was packed. i don't think i'll be going to the range anymore on the weekends...too many weekend warrior types.

i hear ya bro, a lot of people out there don't have a damn clue :banghead:

I was shooting clay pigeons at a public range with my son last fall, when we noticed that the shooter using the bay next to us had a habit of turning around (facing uprange) to load his O/U double, and sweeping us with his gun's muzzle as he closed his action and turned back toward the firing point. Without walking any closer to him, I reminded him of the first rule.

The phrases and finger gestures that the shooter used to respond to my comment were priceless, especially because he had what appeared to be his teenage son there. He stopped sweeping us, though.

After that incident, I became a volunteer RO for a range that takes safety much more seriously. No range Nazis...everyone is genuinely interested in making sure that no accidents occur. It is a pleasure to shoot up there.
