A range about 12 miles from me was lists "Ladies Night" on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, so I took my 19 year old daughter and we went out for her to shoot my new Ruger LCR. We were the only gals there, but we got the discount and had a good time. It was her first time shooting and I'm a beginner myself so I wasn't help, but she didn't do too badly.

After we took turns shooting a couple of boxes of ammo we washed up and went to dinner. It was quite a nice night and she wants to do it again.

So, hubby might not be into my new hobby but us gals will get proficient.

Meesh,

Get Hubby out there to try! My wife made a New Year's resolution to shoot our S&W .357 at least twice this year. She didn't like the S&W much but rented a Glock 19. She now has a Glock 26, Colt Mustang, Ruger MKII, and Walther P22. We belong to two ranges and shoot at least twice a week. She's having a great time and getting into competiton and I have someone to shoot with.

Great to hear that you had a good time. The first time my fiancee went to the range with me she was afraid to shoot (it was our 3rd date), now she owns a sig P250, a sig mosquito, a CZ 83, and stole my Smith & Wesson snubbie .38 SPL.

She wants to go shooting all the time; it is great to share this hobby with her. Maybe if the 38 LCR hurts his hand, have him rent and shoot an all-steel 38 or even a 22 autoloader.

Well to force someone to go to something they don't like sucks for both parties. As long as he is for you shooting then go shooting.

Another option is to buy a 22 for him... (ok mostly you, but you can say it's for him!) to shoot if it hurts his arm but I don't know the extent of his injury. My mother doesn't like shooting because she has carpal tunnel. Double action triggers really make her arm hurt. Your mileage may very.

Edit:

A word of wisdom I gained: If you are taking people new to shooting, meet up beforehand at your place and talk through how to load/unload/check clear, where the safety is, how to aim (with pictures!) and dry fire a few times. Snap caps help quite a bit with this.

Saves screaming at one another with hearing protection on and getting hit by brass at a range.

My local range has a ladies night as well. It's nice because normally a single lane is $13 and it's $18 to share with another person. If you go on ladies night with a lady you can split a lane and only pay $9 because her half is free.

When I was dating my now wife she had a 1st generation Glock 21 which was waaaaaaay to big for her hands. I asked her if she ever shot it and she said no. She grew up with guns in her parents house but never shot them. So my first present to her was a baby eagle 9 mil and took her out shooting and now she has a baby eagle .40 and a .45 caspian slide on her carry gun. She even picks out guns for me to buy now.

My advice to you is to make a 'date night' and don't tell him beforehand where you are going and take him and get rid of his preconceived notion that he may have about guns and maybe you can turn him onto them then. if he still doesn't like it then tell him that will the crap hits the fan at least you are able to protect the family. (might challenge his manhood but at least he knows where you stand.)

He doesn't like it, and that's fine. He came around quick to me wanting to own a gun. I like that my daughter enjoys it. The gun stays locked up so she can only access it with me, which is as it should be. I do plan on getting a .22, probably in the spring, happy birthday to me. Mostly because it'll be cheaper to shoot. If he wants to shoot that it's fine with me, but he's not that into it. And I am not into his ham radio hobby. So it's all good!

Hmmm.....what man dosn't like to fire a gun? That just simply amazes me.

Right, because only "real men" like to shoot guns.

My dad doesn't like to shoot, despite being pro-gun. My grandpa didn't like to shoot, despite being a Korean War & WWII vet.

Go figure, huh?

Congrats Meesh, It really makes me have some optimism for our future. It's great to hear of a dad taking his son shooting and even better when he takes his daughter. To hear a mother takes her daughter just beats all. Glad to hear you had a good time and it will be a repeat trip.

That's great Meesh!

I met my shooting partner in our ladies handgun class and we still meet to shoot about once a week. We both joined our local range, but Ladies nite is Mon nites and is free and that is when I take other friends.
