Illinois, considered as one of the least gun owner friendly states is poised to get even less so. Bill1966, named "Fix the FOID bill", will impose even more hoops for law abiding gun owners to jump through. To possess, own, or buy a firearm you have to have a state issued firearms owners card good for ten years, up from five a short while ago. This bill adds the requirement of fingerprints, raises the fee an additional $40, cuts the time to five years, and effectively bans person to person transfers. FOIDS are supposed to be approved in thirty days but often take up to five months. Department income is routinely "swept" to other state funds leaving the department underfunded and understaffed. Today the state police director came out in favor of the bill stating that it will catch more bad guys and speed up the FOID approval process.
Paying for a right is bad enough, having to wait for it is worse, but being lied to is the worst. Support ISRA, the Illinois State Rifle Association, and write your rep in the General assembly asking them politely to vote this atrocity down.

I abandoned the Land Od Lincoln 35 years ago to the Northern border state and have been much happier other than the years of Diamond Jim Doyle. Problem is that with the very high Illinois Income tax and Property taxes many in the northern counties and Chicagoans are moving here and bringing their Ideology with them.

Yep, that is just the same thing as what is happening in CO and AZ with all those "refugees" from "California".

If you ditch your State and go to a free one, don’t vote for every new law proposed, just because they are nowhere near as restrictive as the place you fled. Because we don’t want to be turned into those places in the same incremental steps over time.

Pretty sure Beto wouldn’t have even been the tiny flash in the pan he was without the liberal migration into our State and that’s not the ones from the south..,

I find it odd for people to not congregate with like minded folk. If “utopia” is the goal, you would avoid opposition. If you think you did a good job making a great place to live, why would you want to leave? If you created an untenable situation and decided to get away from it, why would you prove ignorance and attempt to duplicate it in another location?

I think that’s why history is unimportant these days, as ignorance is bliss.

Sad.
Illinois isn't the worst state for gun ownership, but it is bad. Remember when governor Quinn was forced to sign a CC bill into law? I felt like it had only gotten better here for firearms in the last 5-6 years, but I could be wrong. I wish they would just get rid of the FOID nonsense , but I'm sure they won't .

A bill in the Illinois General Assembly includes a million dollar liability requirement to get an Firearm Owners ID (FOID).

Provides that an applicant for a Firearm Owner's Identification Card or for renewal of that Card must submit to the Illinois State Police that he or she has proof of liability insurance coverage of at least $1,000,000 for accidental injuries caused by a firearm.

There are six counties surrounding Cook County in which I include DeKalb county which makes up a total of Seven Counties that pretty much sets the politics of the whole state and it's been that way for as long as I can remember. Now remember that there are 102 counties in the state of Illinois. Just 7 controls the other 95.
