Considering ordering some new bottom metal so my 700 sps varmint will take detachable mags. I want the best quality is the Badger m5 the only bottom metal they offer? and can I have that fit on a HS precision police stock what will need to be done to fit the stock?

I've been considering building a similar rifle. If you are going with an H-S Precision Stock, I would recommend going with H-S Precision bottom metal. They offer very comparable quality, and are guaranteed to fit when used in their stocks. Prices are comparable, IIRC the H-S bottom metal was cheaper but their magazines were more expensive (I could have this exactly reversed). But I figured bottom metal, 2-5rnd mags, and 2-10rnd mags; the total cost was so close that I decided that cost was not a determining factor for me. One more thing to mention, (and this comes from inspecting pictures, not actual mags in hand) I think that it MAY be possible to alter a M-14/M1A mag to fit the Badger Ordnance bottom metal. You'd have to make your own call on this fact/opinion.
As far as work to get the bottom metal to fit, it's nothing that can't be done with a Dremel tool, a VERY LIGHT HAND, and OFTEN FIT CHECKS. If you go slow (and check/recheck often), it's nothing that an average handy person couldn't do. I've done it with presentation grade wood stocks, and synthetic also. The syn. was just floating a barrel on a Marlin .22, easy as pie. The wood had almost every option available to custom rifles. (Dakota Skeleton butt plate and grip cap, Sunny Hill bottom metal, NECG Cartridge Trap, Dakota recessed sling swivels). I went slow on almost everything. All the metal fit great and looked beautiful. When I went to put the gun together, I found out that I took out too much wood for the double set trigger to work properly. That was a $400 mistake that I won't ever make again. So, not to sound like a broken record, but check your progress often. And recheck a time or two before you go to take out more material. The material is a lot like money, it's a lot easier to get out than it is to get it to go back in.
