I've been fussing with a Bar-Sto barrel in my BHP off and on for over a year. Had a gunsmith fit it but he's not around any more. It didn't work very well, hung up while cycling. I stoned the lug down a bit and seemed to fix that. Trouble is that it is very picky about ammo. It likes Berry's round nose and nothing much else.

I just loaded up some Oregon Laser Cast 124 gr round nose 1.13 OAL. Tried them in my Sig 226 and they are great. They will not work in the BHP. Seems that the bullet hangs up. I can see the ring around the bullet where it is hitting the barrel. I won't run OLC flat points either. Is this a reaming issue? Factory loads run fine, but I want to shoot my reloads.

I would suggest posting your problem on the 1911 Forum. I have a FEG copy of the BHP and love it, but feeding issues can be a problem on some HP's. The hump in the feed ramp on the older barrels is a problem area. A weak magazine spring, or a weak recoil spring could also be the culprit. The other forum is handgun only and you may find your answer just by searching. Don't give up, the BHP is a classic pistol and once you iron out the problems, you won't regret the effort.

Sounds like you may have a tight chamber. I ran into the same thing on a Beretta 92 with a Bar Sto barrel. If you are not experienced with throating and opening the chamber (polishing) you are better off finding a new gunsmith and having him do it.

Thanks for the input. I've already decided to visit my local smith. I'll take the gun and both the Bar-Sto barrel and the factory. I'm sure he'll see the problem and have the tools to fix it right.
