TonyR,

I would wear that Commercial 1916 1911 to a BBQ or even a wedding ANYTIME. The wear and "Poor Engraving" are what is called "character."

Nice piece.

Speaking of weddings I had a good buddy get married in a gazebo in a public garden a few years back. The wife and I prepared a broom with nice decorations for when the "preacher" got through with the traditional speechifying and promisings and it was on the ground infront of the bottom step of the gazebo for easy hoping over. I was not standing up with him but we were both well healed with Colts ourselves though we both had Series 70 Mark IVs hidden away under our coats. When it got to the part where the public decloration was asked for, "If any man or woman knows any reason these two should not....", the best man turned to the audience pulled open his coat and pointed to the shoulder holstered 6 inch barreled Highway Patrolman along side his nice white shirt. Got a few laughs. We really wanted to get this guy married off and so far it has been 17 years and two kids. Best man and I had looked into an old single shot to paint ivory white, but my spousal unit and then bride to be got wind of it and failed to see the humor. Shoot, I would have let the wife wrap the shotgun in white ribbon and stick on fake flowers to match the broom!

Cocked and Locked,

Dang your hide! The S&W M39 is like the only Toggle-ydyte safety gun I ever had the urge to buy and I thought I was over it! Those grips go VERY nicely with that blued looking finish. At a young age I had access to a 39 for a bit I really liked it except folks believed in using the safety in those days rather than just trusting to the double action first shot pull. For some strange reason a kid weaned on 1911s and Ruger RSTs kept trying to swipe the upper rear of the left grip panel and forgetting to toggle the dangle lever. That first model also choked even on the RNSP and RNSPWLBHP (with little bitty hollow point, I think it was Winchester that had a pin hole of HP in their 9 sillymeter and .30 carbine offerings). I did love the way it felt, pointed and shot......even if it did only work with RN FMJ.

Once the US army went Nein Millimeter (sorry "Fraud-ian" slip there) and I was allowed to carry a Privately owned weapon I started to look for a M39 but none were to be found in my neck of the woods of Germany......but the search for issue caliber guns did turn up a P7 and early CZ75 so I was happy.

Still, nice looking Smith there, C&L.

C&L,

You're doing that on purpose, man!!!!

And thank you for it.

Oh and BTW I like the ammo box collection. Back around 1978 I stumbled into a good bit of surplused police ammo in the Peters rustless blue labels for 230 grain .45ACP hard ball. The ammo it self was a pretty copper jacketed GI-ish fmj in a lovely nickeled case. The cases were great for reloading as well. Like an idiot I shot it all up and tossed the empty boxes in the burn barrel once they started to look a bit tattered. The stuff worked well in everything .45ACP from a Ruger Blackhawk to a M1928 TSMG. Wish I had a foot locker full today.
