Barrel for Colt detective special

Does anyone know where I could find a new, unused shrouded barrel, 2", blued for a Colt detective special?

Yes I have checked Numrich's.

They have a 3" blued, and a 2" nickel, but not a 2" blue.

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

DS/Cobra Barrels

The "D" frame barrels will fit both models made in steel or alloy.
BUT remember that you must have the proper frame wrench to change the barrel or you risk destroying the frame.
It isn't a project for casual home gunsmithing to fit properly, align and of
course have the proper barrel/cylinder gap when you do this.

My understanding is that the barrel for a cobra is made of steel, just as mine is, and that the only difference between a cobra and a detective special is that the cobra frame is alloy, is this correct?

Next question "What is the difference, if any, between "barrel assembly" and "barrel"? (numrich has some listed as barrels, some as barrel assemblys)

Third question: Numrich sells a "Barrel Assembly, .38 Cal., 2'' Shrouded" for around $80 for a Cobra. They have this in stock. They sell something of the exact same description for a detective special for the same price, but it is listed as "sold out." The parts numbers are slightly different. Why would they be different part numbers, if they are the same barrel? Is it just stamped differently??

If it is just stampings, I guess I would "prefer" a detective special barrel, but if I dont have a choice, it wouldnt be the end of the world. One of the sellers RC told me about has detective special barrels, but they are $125. I am still waiting to hear back from the other. I would like to be closer to the $80 mark I guess.

It is a shrouded barrel and $75.00 delivered will buy it. Same barrel as Det spl except markings. I also have an older det spl 2" but it is nickle and unshrouded(old style)

For some reason some suppliers call a barrel a "barrel assembly".
Some barrels have separate front sights, so "assembly" would mean it comes with the sight.
Otherwise, it's just terminology. These Colt "D" frame barrels are all one piece, but you still see them listed as barrel assemblies.

The difference between the shrouded Detective Special Barrel and the shrouded Cobra barrel is the name stamped on it.

Thanks dfaris for the info and others who have helped. I have located someone on the Colt forum that has one, now just waiting for price. If its too high, I may consider an agent barrel, or just be patient for a DS to show up.

Also, what parts should I "stock up" on for my DS? I would prefer to buy the most common parts needed now while they are still readily available to be found, rather than search high and low years from now when something breaks.

What parts are most prone to break?

I had no luck getting DS parts from the usual Numrich and such. I had much better results keeping an eye on GB.
