was cleaning my springfield armory 1911a1 today and noticed the barrel was marked KART 45 NM anyone know the meaning of these letters..has it been replaced with a national match barrel by the NM designation? i bought it off the family of their deceased father who had plans on building it but the only thing they think he had done were the Bomar rear sights...i am wondering if more has been done

Sounds like an aftermarket barrel and yes, with NM specs--so he apparent did more than just the sights.

"KART" is /was an aftermarket manufacturer, and they may have done OEM supply to SA as well--but I doubt the barrels would be marked that way.

What's the 1911 like? How old, etc., etc...has it been 'smithed up? What kind of shooter owned it?

My own SA 1911 started out as a blue mil-spec in 1987. At that time, SA use NM specs on their receivers as well, and my receiver is marked as such--but not the barrel. It now sports a Bar-Sto--and yes, that made it more accurate. And a Bomar.

Sounds like your SA had a KART NM barrel fitted to it.

KART barrels do not just 'drop in' but need to be fitted along with the bushing.

its not very old, maybe a few years at most and was owned by a highway patrol senior range instructor..well i may have to look it over a little better and se what else it has...
