I had a friend give me a set of USGI NM parts for a 1911 Pistol. He included a deluxe Essex frame. The rest of the parts are : NM slide, Kart NM barrel and fitted bushing, set of USGI NM grips and all the internal parts. I sent the parts to Jim Collins in Birmingham, AL for assembly and fitting. Along with the parts I sent an extended full length sight rib by BoMar and a medium length NM trigger with adjustable trigger stop.

The result is a great bullseye pistol. I had a pistol similar to this one in the late 70's. The accuracy level is quite high and it functions flawlessly.

Unfortunately, Jim Collins has passed away. He was a great shooting champion and gunsmith.

The used BoMar was $150.00 and Jim's fee was $250.00 for the upper action job. &400.00 for a ribbed .45 1911 is a great bargain.

Nice Bullseye parts gun! And your right: $400 for gun like that is a real bargain! I wasn't aware of a "deluxe" Essex frame but it would have to be better than the one I used for a build years ago. Not one of the holes in the frame were true and it took many hours of careful work with a round Swiss file to make it right. Had it set up for .38 Super initially but came across this TacSol .22 conversion unit and decided to go with this set-up for awhile. With the right ammo it can be a real tack driver.

Most Essex frames have mold marks on them. This one does not. I read somewhere, the frames can be had in 2 grades.

Would have loved to had the "better" grade frame! Probably would have saved me considerable time and effort (plus me muttering a few choice cuss words), while I was building mine!
